In the morning, we got up and got dressed. Casey helped me pack my bags before I checked out of the hotel and we went home. When we got back, I put my things away and Casey put my key back on my key ring. "Here. You should read this while I unpack." I gave him my open computer.

I got a call a couple days later when Sarah and Shaw were back in town. "You need to come in and bring Chuck. Tomorrow is the day of the test."

"I'll leave now and grab him at the Buy More." I replied and hung up. I looked over at Casey, "It's time." I sighed and slipped on my shoes.

"I hope he proves us wrong." He replied. He pulled me in for a quick kiss before I left.

"I can't be a part of this. Shaw knows that. I just have to be there when they explain what's going to happen. I'll be back later. Good luck with your mission." I smiled and slipped out the door.

I picked up Chuck at the Buy More and took him down to Castle. I sat on the table and listened as Beckman explained his test. He turned to look at me, "Are you going to be with me?"

"No. I'm not involved in this in any way." I replied. "There's no way I can be impartial." I explained. "You need to know that if you fail, your life as a spy is over."

"I understand."

"With that out of the way, I'll be going now." I smiled and headed for the door. I stopped short at the stairs, "Oh, Sarah, girl's night soon?" I asked, turning back to face her.

"Sure. I'll call you." She nodded and I left to go back to the apartment.

I ran some errands before heading back to the apartment. Casey was just getting back too. "How'd it go?" I asked.

"Good. I made contact. She's sweet." He replied.

I'd suggested last night that he go visit Alex where she worked. At first, he'd looked at me like I was nuts. "You don't have to tell her who you are. Just meet her." He thought it over before agreeing that it couldn't hurt.

Over the next few days, I received updates on Chuck's test. So far, he was passing. All that was left was the red test. This was his chance to prove himself as a spy. It would be his first kill.

I should have known that something was up when Casey sent me over to have dinner with Ellie. When I got back to the apartment, Casey was just walking through the courtyard. "Where have you been?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at him.

"You don't want to know." He replied quietly as he closed the door to the apartment. "Chuck passed his test."

"How do you know that? I haven't heard from Sarah or Shaw tonight." At that moment, my phone rang. "This is Bartowski." I answered.

"Kat, it's Sarah. Chuck passed. He's officially a spy." She didn't sound thrilled.

"Everything okay? I thought you'd be thrilled that he passed." I asked, sitting on the arm of the couch.

"It's nothing." She replied. "It's stupid."

"Okay. Well, I'm here if you ever decide you want to talk about it." I told her.

"We'll do drinks next week." She promised. "I promised Shaw I'd help him look for the Ring operative that killed his wife." Sarah explained.

That seemed like an odd request to single her out for, but I let it go. We said goodnight and hung up. I turned back to Casey, "How did you know Chuck passed the test?" I repeated.

"I killed his target." He admitted after a long moment of silence. "I didn't want him to fail."

"I understand. Thank you." I let out the breath I was holding and hugged him.
