That night I'd had a few dreams, but they weren't anything like the ones I'd been having. When I woke up that next morning, I was a lot closer to Tyler than I remember being when we went to bed. It took a brief moment to realize that he was holding my hand.
I blushed and agonized over whether I should just lay there and pretend to be asleep, or remove my hand and risk waking him up. I went with getting up and hoping I didn't wake him.
I got up as quickly and quietly as I could so I could go make breakfast and coffee. It was about nine o'clock in the morning when I made it out into the kitchen. I started the coffee pot and grabbed the bread and plugged in the toaster.
"Morning," Tyler yawned, coming into the kitchen.
"Morning," I smiled, turning at the sound of his voice. "Sleep well?"
"As well as one can after drinking too much."
"I know I was having dreams again," I admitted. "They weren't as bad though."
"I heard you whimpering, but you stopped when I held your hand," he told me.
"I'm sorry I kept you up," I apologized.
"You really didn't," he said, making himself a cup of coffee.
I put a couple pieces of bread in the toaster and waited for them pop up when they were done. "Last night was fun though," I smiled. "I didn't know they were all in town."
"I didn't either. That was just pure dumb luck."
"We'll have to do dinner again before we go."
"Sounds good."
We went and got ready for lunch with Beckman. I curled my hair and did my makeup, wanting to look more put together than normal.
"You look nice," Tyler commented as I put my coat on.
"Thanks."
Beckman managed to get us a table in a secluded part of one of my favorite restaurants. She hugged me when we were alone. "You're looking a lot better," she commented. "Being out here must be doing you some good."
"I think it is," I said as we sat down.
"I hear you think you're ready to go back to work? Is that true?" Diane asked.
"Yes. I'm bored at home," I admitted.
"Would you prefer to continue working in Burbank, or do you want a change of scenery?" she asked.
"I think I was ready for a change of scenery even before everything happened. I'd like to relocate back here, if that's alright?" I replied.
She smiled, "I'd hoped you'd say that. We're rebuilding the Buy More, but I think your talents are better suited here. I'm hoping to convince your brother to rejoin the agency."
"What do you mean?" Tyler and I asked together.
"He didn't tell you? Mr. Bartowski told me that he no longer wished to be a spy because he was having to lie to your sister about it," Diane explained.
"Wow. Clearly I've missed a lot," I replied. "Have you heard anything out of Walker or Casey?"
"They're working on tracking down an EMP for me at the moment. Have you been out of contact with them as well?" Beckman asked.
"Yes."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"It's not your fault he doesn't do long distance," I replied.
Beckman turned to Tyler, "What about your next assignment?"
"I'll go wherever you send me, but I'd like to base here."
