In the morning I woke up to a dull ache in my shoulder. "How do you think Walker did with Barker last night?" I asked, looking down at Casey.
"She's a big girl. She can take care of herself." He replied, sitting up. "I'm more interested in your shoulder." Casey ran his thumb over the stitches. "Does it hurt?"
"No." I lied.
"Liar. Tell me the truth."
"It's just a dull ache." I replied, getting out of bed.
"Are you lying?" He asked, following me.
"No." I walked into the kitchen and started the coffee pot. I sighed and turned around, to face him. "I understand that you're concerned, but I'm fine."
"I am concerned. I want my team in top shape." Casey replied.
"Right. Well, I'm fine and your team is in top shape." I replied and turned around to get a cup of coffee and moved out of his way.
"Hang on." He stopped me before I could leave the kitchen. "You're upset with me. Why?" He asked, blocking my only way out.
I sighed and put my cup down on the counter. "I'm a little offended that you don't believe me when I tell you I'm fine. I know my limits, and I'm well within them. I would tell you if there was an issue to be concerned about. You know that, yes?"
"I do know that, but that doesn't mean that I'm not going to be concerned. You had bits of metal stuck in your shoulder yesterday and you were light headed from loss of blood. You don't have to pull the tough girl act with me." His voice was getting softer. "You can pull that for anyone else, but not me." He rubbed my good shoulder, "What I didn't know is that you could tolerate black coffee." He teased.
"I've learned to improvise and be flexible. There generally isn't a Starbucks in the middle of the desert." I replied, taking a sip. "You did rub off on me in more ways than one." I admitted.
"Damn right I did." He laughed and smacked my bum playfully before he went to take a shower. While he did that, I made the bed and finished my coffee. We left for Castle about an hour later in the Crown Vic. I wanted to take mine, but the Agency had taken it over night for a cleaning. Turns out, I bled more on my seats than Cole did. "You need to slow down on the coffee. That's your third cup." Casey warned. It was actually my fourth. "What do you think of Barker?"
"As an agent?"
"No as a male model. Of course as an agent."
"He'd make an excellent model. Just saying." I winked and continued, "From what I've seen, he can handle himself well. I would have to work with him more to have a fully informed opinion." I replied. "Why? What do you think of him?"
"He seems like a good guy. Pretty sure he's interested in Walker." He mused.
"I'm sure he is too. I watched him shove the two twin beds together last night before we left."
"Bet Walker didn't go for it."
"How much?"
He thought about it for a moment, "I don't want money. I want a far sweeter prize." Casey grinned as he parked the car.
"You're betting on whether or not they got it on, and you want the prize to be sex?" I asked, trying not to roll my eyes at him.
"If I win, I call the shots. If you win, you're in charge." He explained as we got out of the car and walked over to the frozen yogurt shop. "I'm betting that they didn't."
"Fine. I'll say they did, even though I'm sure they didn't." I stuck my tongue out at him as I laid my hand on the scanner to go down to Castle. I found Sarah sitting at the conference table, looking like she hadn't slept.
