The next morning was a little rough, at least for me. I got up slowly when my alarm went off. We'd decided to shower the night before so we could get up and go. By the time I made it out to the living room, Tyler had already made a Starbucks run.
"I swear everyone in my life is a morning person except for me. How did that happen?" I yawned.
"You're just lucky," he grinned, handing me my coffee. I swear he has the energy of a golden retriever. "You ready?"
I yawned and nodded.
"The car is loaded, so I'm ready when you are."
"Let's go." We got in the car and he drove us to the airport. "How'd you sleep?"
"Pretty good. You? I didn't hear any screaming," he replied.
"Honestly, it was one of the better nights sleep I've had in awhile."
"Yeah? That's good. Hopefully, the streak will continue this week!"
"A girl can dream."
I just had to stay awake long enough to board the plane. Tyler kept at my pace as we wheeled our luggage through the terminal toward our gate. The security line wasn't too awful either.
When we boarded, I told Tyler to take the window because I was probably going to fall asleep. It wasn't long after take off that I went back to sleep, leaning against his shoulder. Tyler woke me up just before we landed.
I actually had to wipe off some drool. "I'm so sorry," I told him, trying to wipe the mark off of his shirt.
He laughed, "It's okay. You're cute when you sleep, even the snoring."
"I might just have to keep you around. I seem to sleep a hell of a lot better," I remarked.
We disembarked after landing and went to get our bags. Once we had our stuff, we headed for the exit to catch a cab.
"I say we head back to my place first, drop our stuff, and make a plan for the week," I suggested.
"I like it!"
It was winter, so we had to have real winter clothes. I had a jacket, but it wasn't enough. I didn't need a winter coat in California. My real coat was in my hall closet in DC. I bounced on the balls of my feet while we waited for a cab, trying to keep warm.
After about fifteen minutes we managed to hail a cab. I gave the address, and we were on our way. I huddled up next to Tyler in the back to stay warm. Apparently we managed to get a cab without working heat, so we were freezing.
We got out on my block and I led the way to my building, and then to my apartment.
"This place looks way more 'you' than your place in Burbank," Tyler commented, putting his bag down by the couch.
I had to chuckle, "Living with Casey meant that certain things were sacrificed. He's clearly a guy who prefers functionality to aesthetic."
"No joke," he replied.
"Getting that couch was probably the biggest win I had in battle of the decor." Consolidating two apartments worth of stuff into one had been a challenge. There were several arguments. I almost kept my place out of spite. "You don't mind sharing a bed, do you? It's a king."
"Whatever you're comfortable with," Tyler replied.
"That couch is awful to sleep on. I wouldn't do that to you," I replied.
"So what do you want to do this week?" he asked.
"Smithsonian, the bars I missed out on as a rookie, and I have a list as long as my arm of food places I want to go to. We should check out what's at the Kennedy Center this week," I mused.
