I slept through the night and into the early morning. I woke up when my phone started ringing on the nightstand. "Bartowski." I answered, still a little sluggish. "Kat, can you and Evan be in Castle in half an hour?"
It was General Beckman. "I want to make sure that everyone is caught up on what all is about to happen. It will be easier to have everyone there together to explain it."
"Sounds good. We'll be there." I yawned. I hung up and looked over at the empty spot in bed next to me. I got up and walked around the apartment and found him in the kitchen, making coffee. "Morning." I yawned and hoped up on the counter.
"Good morning." He smiled and leaned over to kiss me. I couldn't help but giggle because his beard tickled my face. "You want coffee?" He asked.
"Yes please! We have to be in Castle in half an hour to debrief and all the other good stuff." I told him. "So I might have to have it to go."
"I can take care of that. You go get ready. Can I have my undershirt back?" No sooner had he asked, did I take it off and toss it at him. I ran back to the bathroom and washed my face and threw my hair up into a bun. When that was done, I threw on some jeans and a black shirt. I came back to the kitchen to find Evan already dressed and pouring two cups of coffee. "I'm ready." I smiled.
"This one is yours." He said, handing me a travel mug of coffee. "It's strong." He warned.
"I need strong." I replied, grabbing my keys and phone. "We should go." I looked out in the courtyard, wondering where Casey was, and what the ramifications of last night were going to be. I took the route that led in front of his place to get to the parking lot, and it was dark. He was probably already at Castle. We got in the car and I drove us there. I used the hand scanner to let myself in and we went downstairs. I don't think we could have walked into a more tense room. Casey was brooding, standing in a corner. Chuck and Sarah were pretending to be busy with anything. They were also dead silent. I didn't say anything. I sat down at the conference table and drank my coffee. Evan sat next to me, smiling at Chuck and Sarah as he drank his own coffee.
"Good morning team." General Beckman was here in person. It was a little bit of a surprise to see her in California. "We have a few things to discuss. First, I would like to introduce you all to Special Agent Evan Gatlin." She gestured to Chuck, Sarah, and Casey. "He runs the branch of operations based in LA."
"Howdy." He gave a small wave.
"You sound like you're from Hickville." Casey mumbled under his breath.
"I'm originally from Jackson, Mississippi." Evan replied, not missing a beat, or showing any kind of anger.
"I'm Chuck. Kat's brother." Chuck reached over to shake his hand.
"I'm Sarah Walker. CIA." She smiled and shook hands with him as well.
"That's Casey." Chuck said. Casey grunted, and made no move to join us at the table.
"I just wanted to recap what happened last night and where we're going from there." General Beckman explained, ignoring Casey's poor manners. "Chuck now has the Intersect again. He's decided to take his spy training seriously. He is going to a base in Prague to begin that training." She took a deep breath before continuing. "Agent Walker will accompany him. Colonel Casey, I have a mission for your eyes only while Chuck and Sarah are gone." She looked over at me, "Kat will be helping to head the LA team."
“Congrats, that's a great accomplishment." Sarah smiled at me. "You'll do very well, I'm sure."
"Thanks Sarah." I smiled, trying to hide the shock of discovering that I was going to be partly in charge of a team. That was news to me. "Congrats sis." Chuck smiled and Casey grunted. "Thanks. Good luck to you. You're going to need it." I replied, still partially in shock.
