"I'm going to go put some different clothes on if we're going to be cooking." I said, hoping
that she would miss the bandage on my arm. I'm not that lucky."What happened to your arm?" She asked as we went back to change.
"I slipped and fell. I had some glass plates in my hands. They shattered and one of the shards sliced my arm open." I lied. "This was like right before I came here." I explained loudly, as I put on some shorts and a t shirt.
"Can I look at it?" She asked, coming into the bedroom. "Did you need stitches?"
"I did get stitches. If it'll make you feel better, sure, you can look at it." Before the sentence was out of my mouth, she had me sitting on the bed and was undoing the bandage.
"Whoever did your stitches did beautifully." She said, running her thumb over them.
"That still stings a bit, so can we not touch it?" I asked.
"Sure. Let me redo the bandage really quick." She was fast and thankfully didn't ask too many questions about it. She set me to work on dinner. We worked for a couple of hours before Devon got home. He also asked about the arm. I let Ellie tell him all about it.
I went to go change into something more suitable for dinner. I found my black jeans and green flowy blouse. I heard the knock on the door and went to go get it. It was Sarah. "Hello." I smiled, letting her in. "You beat Chuck and Morgan." I informed her. I noticed Casey walking across the courtyard, so I waited for him. "Hi stranger." I smiled. Devon was pouring wine for everyone. I took my glass and stood in the kitchen, leaning on the counter.
Casey came over and stood with me. "Have you said anything?" He asked quietly.
"No. I think I'll make the announcement during dinner." I whispered before taking a sip of my wine. I looked over at the door when Chuck and Morgan came in. "Took you long enough." I teased.
As we were sitting down to dinner, Devon made the comment to Ellie that it looked like they were getting new neighbors. "Yeah, there's a car out there in the spot for the one that's been vacant." He explained.
"I haven't seen anyone over there." She replied.
"Actually, I have an announcement to make." I said slowly. "My company decided that they want me to work based from here for a while. So they got me an apartment and a car. I'm your new neighbor." I smiled.
"Oh my gosh, that's great Kat!" Ellie looked so happy. "Isn't that great Chuck?" She asked.
"I'm glad you're sticking around." He smiled.
"Me too." I replied. "I hope you don't mind, but I'm still going to have to crash here for a couple of days so that I can get some furniture."
"Stay as long as you need."
Ellie's roasted chicken was great, and Sarah had brought dessert: cherry cobbler. "You're a good baker." I told her.
"Thank you." She smiled. Chuck grinned and leaned over to kiss her on the cheek.
As the evening wound down, Casey and I ended up in the kitchen, doing the dishes. "Did you hear what Ellie said about your stitches?" I asked, passing him a plate to dry.
"I don't listen all the time." He replied quietly.
"She said that you did beautifully." I told him.
"They better be. I've had enough practice." He chuckled, drying the plate off and putting it
back in the cabinet. "You know they're all in the next room talking about us, right?"
