We got back to the apartment and knocked on their door. "Where the hell have you two been?" Ellie yelled.
"We were getting your wedding present." Chuck said as our dad walked through the door.
I smiled slightly and stepped back. "I'm going to go get ready." I said quietly before backing out of the room. Once I was back in the courtyard, I turned and ran to my apartment so that I could get ready and have a few drinks. I showered and put makeup on. I took a couple shots of tequila before curling my hair and putting my dress on. As always, the gun Casey gave me went into my hand bag.
There was a knock on my door just as I was putting on my shoes. "Hey." I gave Casey a small smile.
"You look nice." He nodded. "Are you ready to go?"
"Ready as I'll ever be." I sighed, closing the door behind me. He offered me his arm and he walked me to the car.
"You don't sound like you want to go." He remarked.
"I'm the maid of honor. I have to go." I replied. "Have you thought about what assignment you want after this?" I asked.
"I'm going back to my Black Ops team. There's always a spot for you if you want it. You'd plan the ops and provide additional support." He explained.
"Can I wait and join you after the wedding?"
"I figured that you'd want to stay for a couple extra days." He parked outside the banquet hall. "I'll have a jet ready for you when the time comes."
"Thank you." I nodded. "You know, I love Ellie and Chuck, even Awesome and Morgan. They're my family. But my dad and I have always had a rocky relationship. I was always the one child that wasn't supposed to happen. Ellie and Chuck raised me almost entirely on their own." I admitted. "I just want to get my buzz on and dance after the day we've had. Are you game?"
"Definitely. At least with the drinking."
"Sounds good." We got out of the car and walked into the hall.
Chuck waved us over to our table. Our table consisted of our family: Ellie, Awesome, Morgan, Chuck, Sarah, myself, John, and my dad. Everyone was chatting happily as dinner was served. After dinner, the band started to play. Chuck stood up and asked Ellie to dance, then turned to me, "You're next, so deal with it."
"Can't wait." I smiled and took a sip of my champagne.
"Can I steal Kat for a dance, John?" Devon asked. Casey nodded and Devon stood to offer me his hand. I took it and let him lead me out onto the floor. "Is everything okay?" He asked once it was just us.
"Yeah. Why wouldn't it be?" I asked, looking up at him.
"You looked kind of upset earlier. Everything good with you and Casey?"
"We're good. When did I look upset?"
"Back at the apartment when you came in with your dad and Chuck. You looked like something was wrong."
"Nothing's wrong. My dad and I don't have the greatest relationship, but Ellie wanted him here and that's what's important. I'd do anything if it makes her happy. She raised me almost entirely on her own once my mom left."
"I didn't know that." Devon said quietly.
"We don't talk about it very much when it's more than just the two of us." I admitted. "But you're family and you should know. She's going to be a great mom. I know because she was awesome with me." I assured him.
"I know she will too." He nodded. The music stopped and he pulled me into a hug. "Thank you Kat. I'm glad to call you my sister." I hugged him back,
