The cashier stood blank-faced; scanning items half-heartedly. After the second bag was full, the cashier turned to me, announcing the cost of my next two weeks of shopping. I cringed slightly as I noticed it was slightly too much... more than I could ever afford. My fingers slipped through the bag's carry handles, and I slipped my gaze to the floor, The cashier stood with her gum popped over her lip-stick covered lips, her hand extended, expecting the money. I placed the money I had in her hand and in no time, the bags were by my side and I was out the front doors of the supermarket. I kept my head low and my pace fast and I heard the sirens and voices coming from behind me. Tears fell from my eyes; I didn't want to be doing this but I really had no choice.
