I opened my eyes and groaned. I felt light-headed and shut my eyes tightly to get my senses together. After a few minutes attempting to get settled, I opened my eyes and stared at a familiar ceiling.
This wasn't my living room...
I pushed myself up roughly on the cold tile and looked at my surroundings, realizing I was passed out in the school hallway. I heard a light moan and snapped my eyes to the source. Clarissa was laying on the the ground, resting on her side. Her hair was cascading in waves onto the floor.
I stumbled over to assist her, helping her get up.
"Are you alright?" I mumbled to Clarissa as she blinked up at me a few times before nodding, dusting off her jeans. Seeing that she was fine, I looked around, confused when I heard voices coming from a classroom. The school day was over now and there were no extracurricular activities today.
Clarissa and I glanced at each other before I shrugged and gestured to the voices. We walked into the classroom and I was surprised to see that it was full of people. I recognized it was my study hall class. Everyone was in their spots, messing around, and Mr. Walsh was asleep on his desk. I scanned the room and spotted something that made my eyes widen.
It was me. I was fiddling with my pencil talking to Zach and Tyler. I walked up closer to listen to the conversation. I stood next to me, but my other me didn't react, like I didn't even exist.
"I'm not asking her out. It was just for that stupid English acting and that's it. I'm not going out with Rissa," I was saying to the guys dramatically.
My eyes widened. This was the conversation I had before the incident.
"Then why did you look dazed after the kisses?" Tyler smirked at me and I saw myself glare at him.
"Nate, I have known you since we were doing play dates. That confused and flustered expression on your face makes it look like it wasn't nothing. We all know it. If you can get your balls together, you might actually have a decent girlfriend. Out of anyone in our group, you deserve it. You have been off because of Destiny and now she's not an issue. Grow up and ask Clarissa out," Zach demanded.
Looking back on it, I should've done just that. But what was stopping me?
I felt Clarissa stand right next to me. I both wanted to crawl into a hole and die of embarrassment and happy that she was hearing this conversation. I held her hand and gripped it softly. I hoped she saw the expression on my face before I said those dreadful words. How I looked conflicted and confused. Even a blind person could see it on my face. I was just denying it.
Then it hit me.
My crush on Clarrisa was turning into something else. And that something was not what I should be thinking about right now.
Before I could freak out, I heard the dreadful words that ruined our relationship. I blocked it out. I don't need to hear them again. Instead, I desperately searched around for the source who recorded my conversation. I finally spotted her.
It was a blonde girl that I had seen Destiny hang out with, following her around like a lost puppy. She had her phone up with a smirk, recording the conversation.
Really? This chick was the one that caused that trouble? I didn't even know her name and she impacted my life in the wort way.
I looked at Clarissa, who had her eyes shut. The whole scene froze around us, no one moving a single muscle. Before I lost my nerve, I pulled her body towards me and crushed her into a hug.
"I'm sorry you had to hear that. I didn't mean any of it," I whispered.
Before she could respond, the scene shifted. I blinked, feeling disoriented and wondering where we were now.
I saw myself on my way to the next class and being pulled into the janitor's closet by a figure. I wanted it to pause and like time was bending to my will, the whole scene stopped.
I examined the figure in front of me. It was a tall girl with an hourglass shape. She was pale, almost a sickly color skin tone, like she hasn't been in the sun for a long time. She had short choppy black hair and bangs to go with it. She had dark eyes, ones that were void and could send chills up your spine. She didn't wear makeup but red bold lipstick. She was naked and I did my best to focus on her features and not the rest of her body. How did no body else notice her in the hallway? I wasn't alone and there were students there.
"That's her. That's Marissa." Clarissa whispered in horror.
I froze. I kissed Marissa? I shivered in disgust, feeling violated. But I still didn't understand something. Why did I kiss a stranger? It was unlike me and I would have pushed her away.
There's only one way to find out though.
I wanted the scene to continue and it did. I needed to understand. I needed Clarissa to understand.
Marissa started mumbling something under her breath, but I didn't understand the language. As she continued chanting. I saw myself begin to sway. My pupils started to dilate, my pupils growing so there was barely any color in my eyes. I looked at my past self in horror.
What the fuck did she do to me?!
Marissa pushed me into the janitor's closet and shut the door. We heard noises and I cringed a little bit. I heard Clarissa let out a noise of disgust, causing my face to heat up in shame.
I struggled to look at the funny side of it, knowing I needed it to stay sane at the moment. Was I really that loud? How embarrassing.
The scene fast forwarded to the end of the day, where Clarissa caught us. She ran off a few moments later and I was left in the closet alone.
The scene shifted to me running to my car. We were in the back corner of the school, watching the scene. Smoke appeared out of no where and the woman - Marissa - appeared with a smirk.
She licked her lips and mumbled something that caused my stomach to churn.
"Let the games begin."
Then everything became a blur again, turning pitch black.
