"Congrats man!" I laughed

"Congrats man!" I laughed.

Zach had a shit eating grin on his face, his arm around Chloe. Chloe seemed perfectly content lying against him wearing a matching smile.

"Thanks guys. Tell Clarissa I said thanks Nate." Zach said sincerely.

I nodded and told them I had to get to detention. Clarissa was probably already there waiting for me.

I went back inside the school and practically flew there. I was on Cloud Nine. This was a perfect opportunity to get some quality time with her. When I get to the detention room, I saw Mr. Wessler at the desk grading papers. There were a couple other kids, but no sign of Clarissa.

I shrugged. She's probably went bathroom or her locker. I took a seat in the back corner away from everyone else, placing my bag in my lap and pulled out some homework.

"Alright, detention begins now. I'll tell you when you can leave. And please, no cell phones." Wessler instructed lazily.

I looked at the clock. Where was Clarissa? She should had been here by now. Did she ditch detention? I get rid of that thought immediately. Clarissa was somewhat a goody-to-shoes. She never would had done that and would want to stay with me.

As the minutes passed, I couldn't help but get nervous.

I felt a wave of energy surge through me and I tensed. I checked to see if anyone else felt it, but they were either sleeping or on their phones. Mr. Wessler didn't seem to care, and was busy looking at the computer.

Maybe I'm over-

My thought was cut off as the room began to shake.

"EARTHQUAKE!" Screamed a blonde kid and we all scrambled under our desks. I looked out the window and saw dark clouds covering the sky. It started to become pitch black outside.

An uneasy feeling settled through me as I put my backpack on to secure it to my body. I patted it blindly, relieved that the lamp was still there.

"Okay everyone," Mr. Wessler shouted. "Let's not panic. Everything will be-"

And that's when the lights turned off. Everyone began to scream and ran towards the exit. I heard chairs and desks tip over and crash onto the tile floor. Lightning was the only source of light.

I felt adrenaline kick in, getting up. I needed to find Clarissa, she would know what to do. But how would I be able to get out?

Wait- my phone! I blindly searched for my phone, thankful that it was fully charged. I turned the flashlight feature on, letting it illuminate the room. I realized that I was the only one left in the classroom.

I stared at the dark sky. Something was going on and I was alone now. Afraid that Marissa would corner me now that I was alone, I ran out of the classroom and into the hallway. It was completely silent. Where did everyone go?
