I am a person.
You ask why I say this
but I must reassure myself
because you only treat me as such
when I'm in agreement with you.
I am a person.
I am not a political statement
or example
or pedestrian
and I will not be brushed aside as such.
I am a person.
I have every right to speak
even when you disagree with what I say.
Especially when you do.
My words have the same value as yours.
You can't shut me out
because I point out
what you push under a rug.
I will not ignore your injustice
or inequality
or ignorance.
If I'm not old enough now
will I ever be?
Don't use these excuses
to shut me down.
To make me lesser because you fear
the words I say.
My gender
or religion
or race
or age
or sexuality
will never be right enough
to speak.
Therefore I'll do so anyways.
I am not afraid of tax raises.
I don't care about helping
the big leaders
that are all you listen to.
I fear
basic human rights
being stripped
because you don't find me
important enough to have them.
I am a person.
I have the same worth as you.
And I won't allow you to force me
to shut up to feel safe.(Vaguely political rant for so many reasons in this day and age. Apply as you wish.)
