We seem to hold in high esteem this idea that we are average and must wait for someone to come and save us. That a person more incredible and special than ourselves will come change our world someday and that this is the only possible plot. The thing that we fail to realize is that incredible people are both everyone and no one. No one is any more incredible than anyone one else and humans are only as special as you view them. For that matter you are just as special as the people you wait for.

The thing is, no one is ever going to come and introduce you to a magical world like in Harry Potter or Narnia or Mortal Instruments or any fantasy book. And no one will hurricane your life like in Paper Towns or Perks of Being a Wallflower or The Great Gatspy. All these books contain a force that suddenly opens a door to a whole new perspective on everything but in reality, you are the force. You have to do it yourself.

There are no manic pixie dream girls or boys because people are all flawed and stupid. No one has it figured out enough to lead you into a new world. Things are awkward and fumbling and sad. Exciting days only stick out because the rest are mundane. And another human won't be the force that makes your life entirely magical.

We like heroes because there aren't heroes. There's only people trying.
