I don't believe in New Years resolutions but the days after New Years are still some of my favorite times.
Because there's hope.
Hope is a bit lacking lately, you see. I'm guilty as well. I don't believe the good in anything.
But people seem willing to try around now. And I guess trying is all you can really do.
Gym subscriptions will stop and a salad for lunch will fade away but for now people feel okay. People believe they can get it together and that this year is their year.
Change happens because people change; not the year. And people will every New Year say that it's a clean slate and last year was tough and they found their real friends.
Even as cynical as I am, so what? So what if it will fall away?
So what if you don't go on a date every Sunday or you only loose two pounds of your goal? Didn't you feel good about it?
At the stroke of midnight it's still the same people with the same problems in the same world. A ball dropping won't change it.
But hope will. People trying will. We loose sight of that sometimes. Of our health and how giving we are instead of how pretty we look and how much money we have. It's human nature.
And if it takes a ball dropping to remind someone, so what?
I have a non belief in New Years resolutions. But I do have a belief in the change caused by hope.
