Part Forty

"Wait so what are we doing?"

"We're going to Emily's obstetrician to get the envelope that says the gender of the baby, and then we have to go to the store to get all the shit for the gender reveal party." I explained to Deysi as we pulled into the doctors office parking lot. "Wait, isnt the party supposed to be today?" She asked and i sighed. "Yeah but i fucked up. I had work the day i was supposed to figure out the gender and i completely forgot about it and now here we are."

"Classic Amanda." Deysi snorted and i groaned. "Shut up, im trying my best okay! Now just wait here while i go in and get the envelope." I said, getting out of the car and slamming the door behind me.

I walked into the office and over to the front desk. "Hi, im here to pick up an envelope for Emily Swartz." I smiled and the nurse nodded, shuffling through a pile of papers. "Here you go honey." She said, handing the envelope to me. "Thank you, have a nice day." I waved as i walked towards the exit. As soon as i was outside i ripped open the envelope and pulled the paper out of it. I felt my eyes fill with tears as i read it. Em is going to be so happy. I opened the car door and sat down inside of it, handing Deysi the paper. "Call the bakery and order the cake." I ordered, wiping my eyes, then pulling out of the parking lot. She nodded and pulled out her phone.

It was a short drive to the store, being that the doctors office and Walmart are only a few blocks away from each other. I parked the car and we both hopped out of it, making our way into the building.

"Okay do you wanna look for party supplies or food?"

"Food!" She yelled and i laughed. "You know what you're getting right?" I asked and she nodded. "Alright, meet back here in a half hour then." I said and we both parted ways. I grabbed a cart and sighed. Today's gonna be a long day.

"Amanda do you want me to go get the cake while you finish with the decorations?" Deysi asked. I finished taping the streamer i was hanging out and quickly got down off of the stool. "Uh, yeah sure, do you know where the bakery is?" I asked and she nodded. "Yeah it's the one down the street."

"Okay, then yeah. I'll just continue here then." I said, handing her my keys. "Alright i'll be right back." And with that, she was out the door. I walked over to one of Emilys couches and sat down. I groaned and dropped my head into my hands. "This is a lot more stressful than i thought." I mumbled.

I leaned over and grabbed my phone off of the coffee table. I unlocked it and quickly dialed Lukes number. I sucked in a breath and put the phone up to my ear.

"Hey sweetie!" Luke greeted, an instant wave of relief washing over me. "Hey." I mumbled. "Amanda what's wrong?" He asked and i sighed. "Im setting up for Emilys gender reveal party and im just really stressed." I explained. "Awh sweetie im sorry. Is there anything i can do?" He asked and i nodded to myself. "Yeah come here and give me a hug." I laughed, making him laugh too. "Oh how i wish i could baby. But i'll see you tomorrow at the show in Camden. And i promise, as soon as you get here, im never letting you go." He said and i smiled.

"Cant wait Lewi."

6:24pm. Em and her mom should be here any minute. The house looked great if i do say so myself. There were yellow and grey streamers hanging across the ceiling, and yellow and grey balloons in every corner. On the coffee table there were two bowls, one labeled boy and one labeled girl. Everyone either picked up a blue clothes-pin or a pink one and put it in the designated bowl, showing what everyone thinks the baby may be. The cake sat on the dining room table, a decently sized teddy bear cake. And as soon as Emily cuts it, she'll know what her baby is going to be.

I heard car doors close and the gate open. I watched as everyone scrambled around the room, impatiently waiting for Emily to come inside. The door was pushed open and Emily's eyes widened once she saw everyone.

"Woah, what's this?" She laughed, putting her bag down. "Your gender reveal duh! It was Amanda's idea." Her friend Rachael smiled. Emily locked eyes with me and smiled. "Thank you." She said and i nodded.

"No problem, now let's get this shit started!"

"Awh guys these gifts are so cute." Emily gushed. Everyone decided to get her little gender neutral gifts for the baby, all of them being really fucking adorable. "Now what should we do?" She asked and put the last of the presents down. "Well i guess we should cut the cake." I replied, walking into the kitchen to grab her a knife. I walked back into the dining room where everyone was now crowded in, and handed Emily the knife. She took a deep breath and slid the knife into the cake. She cut a small piece and began to slowly pull it out. She gasped and looked up and both Deysi and I. I looked over at Deys and realized we were both smiling like mad. "Oh my god." Emily whispered, wiping stray tears off of her cheeks. "I-I'm having. Oh god, wowie, im having-"

"Yup," I interrupted, laughing. "You're having a boy."
