"Do you think we could drop by my house before we get a coffee?" I asked, taking a huge step forward bypassing a litter.
The whole house was turned upside down along with the garbage truck. A malodorous smell of alcohol surrounded each corners, and I bet I was one of the walking liquors at the moment. Everything was just a total mess.
Chase opened the door while we took a step out of Nathan's house, "Why?"
"I want to change my dress. It's making me uncomfortable, plus I've been wearing it for almost twelve hours now." I stated, lifting the hem of my dress to trace the mess.
Chase swatted my hand away from my dress while I moued at him.
"Now, you're making me uncomfortable." He scowled, putting his hands in his pockets while avoiding eye contact.
I flushed the minute he uncorked the words. "Sorry."
"I have a jacket inside the car. You can use that." He stated as we continued walking to his car parked across Nathan's house, and in front of the 'do not block the driveway' post.
"Can you even read signs?" I asked as I waited for Chase to unlock the vehicle.
"Nope." He purely spoke, clicking the lock and opening the door for me.
I hopped in and fastened my seatbelt, before he handed me a black jacket, "Here."
"Thanks." I muttered as I donned and zipped it close.
Chase turned the engine on then released the hand brake after he drove to the nearest coffee shop. Not within a second, a ringtone resonated inside the car and Chase firmly gripped the steering wheel with one hand while taking his phone in his pocket with the other.
"Who is this calling?" Chase murmured after casting a glance on the caller's ID.
I peeked, craning my neck to see the number and faintly spoke, "Maybe your two hundred and twenty sixth lover."
"What?" He tilted his head giving me an opposing look. "I don't give my number away that easily, unless..." He paused then inserted a question. "Wait, you have my number, right?"
"Just answer it." I snorted, rolling my eyes as I gazed outside while the ringtone reprised annoyingly. I should have expected this. Am I being jealous now?
The phone stopped ringing and I knew he answered it.
Chase's POV
The other line was silent for a second after I swiped the green icon on my screen. Earlier, as I stared at the number something tells me to answer it and for some reason I think the call was necessary. It got me feeling uneasy.
