It was passed seven in the evening when I drove back home. I had completely forgotten that I still had homeworks to finish. Thankfully, Hailey had mentioned the same, or else we would end up dead tomorrow.
As I approached the house, I spotted a car parked in front of it. My heart began to jump a beat, remembering Chase's message a while ago. It actually never crossed my mind that he would wait longer than two hours just so he could talk to me, but he did. I stopped my car in front of his and heaved a breath as I let a minute slipped just thinking about how the situation makes my stomach churn. After a brief moment, I took my bag with me and hopped out.
The night sky surrounds the whole place as stars shone with the moon. Shifting my attention to the trees, a cool wind brushed passed, carrying the rustling sound of leaves. Soon enough, Chase and I silently greeted each other through our eyes. A glee glimmered across his hazel orbs while a small smile crept on his lips. I suddenly stopped on my tracks, standing a few feet away from him while clutching the strap of my bag with my bare hands.
"You waited?"
It really wasn't a wise question to ask, after all, it showed the answer in front of me. However, I just couldn't think of anything other than the fact that he actually did.
He pressed his lips tight before responding, "I don't think I could be able to sleep if I didn't get to clear things up with you."
I glanced at the silent and lit up house before looking back at Chase with a purple mark on his cheek bone. The sight of him having that just made me feel annoyed.
"Where have you been?" He asked.
"Went out with Hailey." I simply spoke, averting my gaze.
Chase released a heavy sigh and took a step towards me while he tucked his hands in his pockets. He closed the distance between use to one foot and stared down at me.
"Look, I just want to say I'm sorry..."
His soft voice drew my attention to meet his eyes. No matter how hard I tried to ignore him, I knew to myself that I would still lose. Something about him just pulls me in like a drug, which I know at some time would be hard to resist.
"Yeah, I know you told me earlier to stop mentioning it again but, I mean it this time." He paused and placed his hands on my upper arm. "And I'll prove it to you. I'll make things up, I will... Nikki, can I take you on a date tomorrow?"
My breathing stopped for a moment and my lips parted. "What if I say no?"
"Do you think I'll actually let that happen?"
I chuckled and playfully bit my lip. "You really are a jerk Chase."
"Come on Nikki, don't be too hard on me."
"Let me first ask you to come inside so I can give your bruise an ointment." I took his hand just after he nodded with a grin. "Come on."
We walked down the pathway, and into the front door. I called aunt Crissa's attention and knocked. A faint voice responded and in a matter of seconds the door flew open.
