Craig was in the kitchen. After Evanee mentioned that she hadn't really eaten anything, he was quick to cook.
Meanwhile, Jonathan had taken out the couch cushions so that the bed was revealed. He set it up properly and was happy to see that Gemma hadn't really changed much about the house. He found the extra blankets and pillows where they usually were when he was younger.
That left Evan to walk across the street and greet his mother, also asking if he could borrow the inflatable mattress in the attic. He explained the entire situation to his mom while he was there and she insisted that she would momentarily visit.
Evanee was upstairs, tending to her hand. She used a thin ice pack and put it on her knuckles, bandaging around her hand and wrapping it up to her wrist so it was secure. When she came back downstairs, she froze.
"Laila," she said, surprised. The last time she saw Evan's mom was when she and Evan were still dating.
The older woman immediately hugged Evanee, tears coming to her eyes. "I'm so sorry, Evanee."
The raven haired girl hugged her back slowly. "Thank you. It's been forever."
Laila let go and wiped at her eyes. "It has. I'll leave you all here. If you ever, and I mean ever, need anything, I'm always here."
Evanee said goodbye and Evan walked his mom back to the house.
"You were on a first name basis with his mom?" Craig asked from the kitchen.
She nodded. "Weird, right?"
Everything continued. Craig was still in the kitchen while Evanee helped Jonathan inflate the mattress with an air pump.
The continued to work as Evan came back in and locked the door. He took Evanee's place and helped Jonathan with the mattress, while Evanee went to help Craig out in the kitchen.
"Smells good? What'd you find?"
"Gemma had bacon, avocados, hamburger patties, buns, and other vegetables so I'm making us bacon avocado burgers. The food will be done in fifteen minutes. Go lie down for now. I've got it under control here."
Evanee pat his back. "Thanks, Craig."
"Anything for you."
The two of them heard a quiet mutter and they looked in the direction of the mattress, only to see Evan there. He looked at Craig for a moment and rolled his eyes.
"Yes, Evan?"
"Oh, nothing. Just inflating this mattress. Anything for you, Evanee," Evan said sarcastically.
"I thought you two were over this," the raven haired girl sighed, going upstairs to change into pajamas since she had gone to sleep in her regular clothes earlier.
Knowing that there were three boys downstairs, she wore a baggy white muscle shirt and black sweatpants. In the middle of changing, the door creaked open and Evanee shrieked.
"Hi?"
"Get out, Jon!" Evanee covered her chest and turned around so that her back was facing the open door.
She heard the door close and sighed in relief, locking it this time. She had to admit that it was her fault for being so idiotic as to not lock her door.
