Everything Will Be Okay

As much as I enjoyed the quick trip to California, I missed Alec and everyone back home. As soon as we got back to the hotel, Magnus portaled us back to the institute because he had a pressing matter to attend too. He warned me that this was the last time we were going to be portaling because it was dangerous when I was pregnant. I wrapped Teddy's hoodie around my body before stepping into the institute.

"Mom, I'm gonna catch a cab to dad's okay?" he told me as he grabbed his luggage.

"Okay baby. I'll call you when I head back home tomorrow. I'm gonna crash at the institute tonight."

"Kay mom. Love you and see you tomorrow." He said as he kissed my cheek and got into a cab.

I entered the doors to the institute and it was a bit of a mess. Everyone seemed so serious and busy.

"What's going on?" I asked a random person.

"Hodge is working with Valentine and Jace went with his father." They told me. My eyes grew big as I rushed to find Alec.

"Where's alec?" I asked frantically. Someone pointed in the direction of the command center. I peered in and he was meeting with some important people and I didn't look professional enough to meet with them. I ran into Izzy's room and grabbed a knee length bodycon dress with nude heels. I put my hair into a professional pony tail and grabbed a white blazer. I proceeded into the command center and stood in the back with Clary. I broke her out of her trance with a slight bump of the shoulder and gave her hand a quick squeeze. She returned my gesture with a small smile.

"We need a plan of defense." Alec spoke. I admired his authorative stance, but I felt his sadness and anger. I could tell that his parabatai bond was severely severed. I wanted to stand by his side and make sure he was okay, but I knew that he needed to fulfill his job as the head of the institute. I stood in the back until the meeting was over and his peers went onto doing their separate jobs within the institute. I approached Alec who was sitting in a chair looking over paperwork.

I sat next to him and gave his hand a squeeze.

"I'm not going to ask you if you are okay because I know you aren't. Don't bother briefing me on the situation either. Tell me what you need me to do." I told him straight up. He always takes his information that way when he's stressed.

"I need you to be safe. Jace's now apart of the enemy. I have teams working on locating him and the cup, but we can't do anything until then." He explained.

"Perfect. Let's go home." I told him as I stood up.

"I really shouldn't leave." He said as he looked down at his work.

"I'm gonna grab your truck from the parking lot and if your not in front of the institute in 10 minutes so help you god." I told him with a smile as I kissed his cheek and held out my hand for his truck keys.

"Okay." He said as he kissed my head and stood up. I grabbed my things from his room and climbed into his truck, or attempted too.

I pulled his truck in front of the institute where he was already waiting.

"Good boy." I teased as I got onto the road.

"Can we stop by whole food? We need food desperately and I'm about to eat my sorrows away." Alec asked.

I looked at him concerned. That's what I do.

"Of course babe." I said reaching for his hand and moving my thumb over it.

...

In the grocery store, he went straight for the beer and the ice cream. It was unlike him to deal with his pain by drinking and eating ice cream. He'd usually train for hours on end until I had to make him stop. I went for the essentials instead but did grab some more junk food in case he needed them. I met up with him as he had somehow gotten a cart that contained 5 cases of beer and like 10 pints of ice cream and junk food galore.

"Come here real fast." I told him as I turned into an empty isle.

I grasped him around the waist and pulled him into a hug. He buried his face in my kneck and I felt some tears coming down.

"Oh baby. It's gonna be okay." I whispered as I cradled his head. I heard quiet sobbing and slight wheezing.

"Let's go home my dear. You need a bath and to settle in bed with all of your beer, ice cream and chips." I told him as I let him go and headed to the check out.

The first thing he did when we got home was unload the truck and take a shower. I was putting away the groceries and cleaning up bits of the house.

I turned on the lights for the backyard and put some pillows on the oversized beds. I set up a area for all of his snacks and beer. It was too nice outside to not be out here. I went back into the house and put on a bikini and a cover up. I grabbed all of Alec's food and beer and put them on the table. As I walked by the theatre, I noticed that we finally organized the DVD's and I grabbed my favorite. The movie Trainwreck was one of my favorites. I grabbed a towel and went to set up the projector. The screen was on the other side of the pool so I could watch while floating. I grabbed the inflatable raft for me and one for alec along with a floating cooler for his beer. I claimed the raft that was basically a floating lounger and went back into the house.

"Alec?" I called out as I walked up the stairs. He was drying his hair and putting on some swim trunks.

"Yeah?" he called back.

"Put your beer in the cooler raft. I call the lounger one." I told him as I grabbed some pants for later.

"Okay. I'll meet you in the pool." He said as he bolted down the stairs.

When I got into the pool, alec got out and grabbed another beer.

"Babe turn around!" he shouted from the side. I changed positions as he hollered.

"Smile!" he said as he held up his camera.

I threw a cheesy smile at the camera.

"Straight cheesin babe." He said with a laugh. I rolled my eyes but smiled back. I liked it when he was care free. Magnus and I have gone out of our way to make sure that Alec Gideon Lightwood enjoyed his life and did some things for himself for a change. Even before we were married, I worried about the stress that would come with running the institute. That stress with a wedding and twins on the way must be really hard. I know it was hard on me. If making the man I love smile like a child took a little extra effort and suprises, I was all for it. He jumped back in and splashed me before climbing into my raft with me.

"Alec." I said as I sighed with content. I rubbed the back of his neck as he cuddled me.

"Everything will be okay."
