Good Deeds

I woke up the next morning to a knock on the front door. I looked around and saw that not only did I fall asleep on the couch with Magnus, the boys stayed true to their word and slept on the fort thing. I got up, grabbed a jacket on the ground and opened the door.

"Good Morning Ma'am. I am sorry to wake you but we are canvasing the neighborhood for information. Last night there was a shooting at the police station and the suspect was seen shooting from his vehicle at the corner of the subdivision. Would you happen to know anything about that?" he asked me.

"Oh god no. Last night we got home around two pm and I kept all of my boys in the house because it got cold. Is everyone okay?" I asked him.

"Three of our officers were shot and are in the hospital. The entire station is working on little sleep and food but we are surviving Ma'am."

"How many officers are in your force?" I asked.

"Only about a hundred for the county."

"Do you guys need any help? I have 6 teenage boys who have nothing to do." I told him.

"We're accepting volunteers for processing people displaced from their homes because of the evacuation of the apartment building next to the station."

"Okay Can I sign up somewhere?"

"Just come down to the station ma'am. This would be extremely helpful." He thanked me.

"No problem. We will be down as soon as possible." I told him.

He bid me farewell and I headed back into the kitchen.

I grabbed a pot and spool and went around the fort banging on the pot.

"Wake up boys!" I yelled. They all groaned but sat up.

"Okay boys we're on a mission today. There was a shooting at the police station and not only are the officers working on little sleep and food, there are families that are displaced from a nearby apartment building. Everyone get dressed and head to the kitchen. I'm going to order some food for the officers and then i'm going to go to the store and get some toys for children and some other personals." I told the boys. Some vaguely nodded while getting up to use the bathroom.

I got on the phone and ordered a lot of food. I got like 150 burgers, mac and cheese, wings, salad, vegetarian options. I got everything I thought would be needed for these people.

I ran upstairs and changed into black overalls with a hoodie underneath, some nike shoes and bandana around my head. I grabbed my wallet and my phone and headed downstairs. Everyone was ready surprisingly and sitting around the living room.

"Okay you go get the food and I'll go to the store. Who's coming with me?" I asked. Magnus raised his hand as well as luke.

"Okay Alec take my suv and go get the food with the boys. Grab some soda and cases of water bottles too. Oh and chips, cookies, whatever looks good." I told them. They left in the two suv's and Rhett's truck.

I let Magnus drive today as I sat deep In thought.

"Hey V, Rhett picked up a Trailer so their going to get coolers for the drinks."

"Ok thank you." I said. I checked out the current situation on the news and sighed when I read one of the officers was in critical condition.

"Oh boy." I said as I moved up the middle console and sat next to Mag. I wrapped an arm around his bicep and rested my head on his shoulder.

"You okay?" he asked as he grabbed my hand.

"Not really." I frowned. I didn't know if this was a world I wanted to bring my children into.
