Shit. A stupid neighbour.
I turn around with my body completely frozen to look at the person behind me.
"Ahh.. I made you a question? Do you need help to enter in the house?" The woman laughs.
"Ahh.. Do you know who lives here?"
What I meant to ask was: Who do you I have to kill?
"Why? Trying to steal the person's house?" She says with a smirk. Her small and thin laughter is getting on my nerves.
"No, are you?" I snap at her and she giggles.
"You're the one that was sneaking through the window.. Why?"
"That's none of your business. Do you know who lives here or not?" I make a rude tone so this woman can live me the fuck alone.
Now I remember why I didn't like this fucking place. Nosey and boring.
Home sweet home.
"Yes. I do." She says with a grin climbing the porch and grabbing a key from her bag.
"You live here?!" What the fuck! There it goes my plan of ripping all the juicy information in seconds. Is she really a woman though? I might never know..
My day is going fucking great.
"So now that I answered your question, can you answer mine?" The woman says opening the door.
I can't help the twist of anger that is forming inside of me. She's entering in my god damned house. Who the fuck she think she is?!
"How long have you been living in here?" I think it's better I keep the threats to myself if I want her to give me all the information about my dad.
"Since a week ago. I used to live in London.."
"And you're here because.." I sit on the chair next to the counter. This is my house after all and if she starts with that fucking bullshit about good manners I'm going to break something! No, I won't because all the stuff in here it's mine.
Shit!
"You're always that nosey?" She says opening the refrigerator door.
"No.." Nosey? Me? Is she fucking kidding me?
"Hmm, water, orange juice or coke? But considering to your height I could offer you a beer or a glass of port?" She laughs and I roll my eyes. Annoying and offensive. Great.
"None."
"You're a very grumpy kid.. "
"And you're annoyingly happy." I fire back.
"Okay kid, what do you want?" She says leaning on the counter filling a cup with coke.
"Informations. Do you know who was living in here five years ago? Did you bought this house?"
"Okay.. Yes, I know the Ross family.. Well sort of.." She says looking at her red fingernails with a smirk.
What the fuck?
"You do?! Which one of them?"
"Robert. Why are you so curious about this?" She asks looking at me with a thoughtful expression.
"I'm nosey remember?" I make a sarcastic tone and she laughs.
"Right." She points drinking from her glass of wine.
Great, a fucking good humoured drunk.
"Do you know Ellen Ross?" I ask. If my mum sold her this house, I'm going to fucking lose it.
"No, Jesus! She was a bitch! I know Robert!"
What the fuck did she call to my mum?!
"Hey are you okay? You're turning purple, kid.."
I gulp the huge lump on my throat and block all my thoughts about insulting her.
"I'm great. How do you.. Ahm.. know my da- Robert! How do you know him?"
"We were very closed.. And then Ellen showed up just to steal him from me." She says balancing the glass of whine in her hand.
"And right when he was going to leave her to stay with me, she told him that she was pregnant.. That manipulative little bitch.."
I have to curl my fingers around the counter to control my anger. I hate this woman.
"And was she really pregnant? Do you know the baby?"
"No. I know that they had a baby boy. I never saw him though, I just went to the hospital to see Robert when he suffered from that car accident.."
"Do you know what happened after that?" A twist of anger and anxiety is bursting on my stomach.. This woman knows my dad, she was dating him before my mum.
"Okay kid, I'm done with this conversation. Now it's my turn to get some informations."
Fucking Bitch.
"Shoot." I say lifting the glass of coke to my mouth. The foam is refreshing against my lips as the ice is freezing my fingers through the glass.
"Who are you? And why are you so interested in my house and in the Ross family? And don't even start with that ridiculous old excuse like it's a work for school and shit."
Fuck.
Emily's POV.
I can't keep my mind focus in what the Professor is saying. I need to call Albert.
"Ems, today we're having lunch at Applebee's! You need to get out of that bubble and hang out!" Sophia says tossing her phone to her bag on the desk.
"I'm sorry, but I can't." I have classes until five P.M. so I need to go home after that," I could perfectly go lunch with Sophia but I don't want to. I can't even think about food with Albert on the back of my mind.
"Please! You need to stop depressing because of the asshole of my step-brother! Let's have fun before geography class!" Sophia curls her fingers around my arm. "Please, please, please! I'm nervous because of that James thing! Please!"
"Fine! I'll go." I'm worried too because of the possibility of James breaking up with her.
Shit. A twist of anxiety is squeezing my stomach.
We leave the hallway to the school gates.
I need to send a text to Albert since I can't call him with Sophia always watching my back.
I instantly grab my phone and start typing faster than my fingers can handle.
*Hi Albert,
I'm so worried about you! Are you okay?
Did you find the person living in your house? Text me as soon as you can! I love you. Xxxx*
I keep staring at the phone waiting for his answer.
"Hi, Emily!" I hear a familiar voice in front of me. I instantly look up.
It's Andrew.
