( AUTHORS NOTE:
This is a crossover between Immortale and Underswitch; AUs of mine, that I have been planning for a while. Enjoy! )
Sans fixed his glasses nervously, his eyes skimming and scamming the papers in front of him. His whole desk was filled with untidy stacks upon stacks of brown folders, organized into small groups. He squinted in the dim light as his monitor flickered behind him. His gaze darted toward the computer, his eyebrow raising.
"Strange reports..." He muttered after a loud yawn. "Like gaps in memory, unexplained... In all kinds of monsters... Doing odd things..." The usual compliant. Just recently these risen to the top, but Sans always pushed them away in favor of more important topics. Like Papyrus' new battle body look. Now, they piled up so badly that he had to address them.
"Okay... hmmm..." He carefully felt around, his hands closing around a cup of coffee. He sipped it causally, his eyes never leaving the page. "Worried... growing old... sign to monster aging... Dreams... Muttering Ga-"
He spit out his espresso, a large black spot coating the page. Sans yelped and dropped the steamy file. He waved his stained glove around, quickly tugging it off with a whimper. He placed it on the table, panting heavily.
Gaster. I thought no one remembered him. Sans mentally panicked. "Not even Papyrus...!" He gasped with realization.
Gaster was the Royal Scientist before Alphys, who was before Sans himself. He was older than most, hence his line of work, where knowledge was key. Dr. Gaster Wing Dings died due to... Sans hesitated. He died due to falling in his creation. At least, that's what I told everyone. Everyone dismissed him after that, and seemed to forget about him as well...
Sans put his forehead in his hands, willing himself to get his breath back. "It's fine." He soothed. "No one's going to find out anything... heh. This will probably pass... A mistake... strange reports... "glitches" heh..." The miserable monster wiped some sweat from his eyesockets.
I need a drink. Something that's not coffee. Sans convinced himself with a chuckle. That's all I need.
The chubby skeleton waddled over to a old satchel; slinging it over his shoulder with a grimace. He apprehensively buttoned up his lab coat. No one needs to see my Papyrus fan club shirt...
"Okay; here we go." He patted the leather bag and trudged toward his door. It slid open with a whoosh.
"Sans?"
Sans froze at the familiar theatrical accent. He murmured a few choice words, then wheeled around with a smile too wide for his face. "Ey, bro." He greeted the taller skeleton shakily.
Papyrus' expression changed into a more concerned one. "Are you alright?" He inquired, his charming tone dropped.
"Y-yep, bro. Nothin' to worry about." Sans stuffed his hand into his pocket. "I gotta g-go though. Big meeting, and... st-stuff."
"Oh." Papyrus blinked, disappointed. "I had some free time, but I suppose..." He grinned painfully. "Well, next time then!"
Sans dipped his head. "Yeah! Next t-time... I... well, you know." He pointed behind him into Hotland.
"Ah. Yes." Papyrus nodded quickly. "Have a good day, brother."
Sans tried not to wince. "Yep..." He jogged off into the scolding hot rocks, thanking the Gods he remembered his shoes. Smoke clouding the air made it hard to breathe normally. He was already sweating buckets, and he haven't even made it to Waterfall!
The glanced at the landscape around him. Lava glowed golden and a rich crimson below him. Red-hot spikes hung down from the ceiling in sharp warning. The rocks crumbled around him as Sans took each and every step.
This isn't going to work. He decided, coming to a complete halt. His eye flared a light-cyan color. I have a different way to get there. He snapped his fingers.
Boom. I'm at Grillby's. Sans smirked. Not bad if I do say so myself. He brushed off his relaxing shoulders.
He entered the eating establishment, tensing up again as he attracted several eyes toward him. A fly-trap monster's teeth clicked in suprise. A drunk bunny winked at him flirtatiously. Sans felt his face flush. A horse stopped jamming to the jukebox in the back, letting out a welcoming nicker. A dog tried to sniff his pelvis, but Sans kicked it away quickly. He finally made it to a open stool with a relived sigh.
A monster made entirely of flames cleaned a cup wordlessly. Sans waited for a couple seconds awkwardly. Then, he whispered, "I want a uh... dr-drink please." The bartender smiled warmly, then stalked away.
I'm only going to have a couple cups. No more...
~TIME SKIP~
"Grrriiilllbbbzzzz..." He moaned, smashing his glass aganist the bar. "Another... one..."
Grillby's eyes glared at him. Sans beamed sweetly to the grumpy flame monster. "Don't get feisty with me now..." He hiccuped. "Hot stuff..."
Grillby let out a scoff, his fire flaring upward, the tips turning sapphire. He pointed savagely to the door.
"Nah...I don't wanna leave yoooouu..." Sans choked up pitifully, then started to cry. "You're the only one that understandssszzzz..."
Suddenly, Sans found himself slumped against a huge, sliver dumpster. The scent punctuated his nostrils, but it only made him giggle, despite tears falling down his chin.
"Griillllbbbbyyy... come back!" Sans laughed hysterically. "Heh heh ha geh! Grillbee! I get it... I get it...!"
Sans fell over in his amusement, his fist failing around and hitting the soft snow below him. The ground was washed in blue.
"Oh man... you're a riot..." He exclaimed with vigor.
"Oh, am I?"
Sans halted. The voice sounded angry. "Wat did I do...?" He inquired sloppily.
Something landed on his back, digging itself in. A sharp snarl echoed behind him. Filled with alarm, Sans struggled, but he was too slow.
"I got a few things I want you to do and I want them to be done quick."
