Shyren paced nervously outside the piano room. Her favorite place in Waterfall, probably in the whole Underground. However, it's peaceful atmosphere wasn't doing anything to help her mood. She might as well been in the Core for all the help it did.
She was going to perform very soon.
At first, she was a shy monster at heart. Always standing in the corner of the room, and trying not to encounter anyone. That changed when a human came by. The human found out her hiding place, and tried to get her to talk.
All Shyren could do was chirp in terror. However, the human just... hummed. It was soothing, somehow, and soon she was singing along.
She flipped her hair to the side and smiled at the human. Singing made her feel free, like a bird. Her voice twittered much like one. They exchanged lines of their conversation of sorts, until other monsters began to notice.
Shyren felt her soul beat faster as they drew closer. She almost stopped, but the human gave her an encouraging smile. Shyren plastered a smile to her face and keep up on her singing.
The monsters started to dance and sing along, surprising the shy monster. Even a booth was set up to actually sell tickets. Shyren was giddy with her the happiness of others loving her songs.
Her singing freed her from her self imprisonment of just being scared. The fear was replaced with the thrill of doing something that used to scare her. What was she afraid of? This was amazing. She was spreading her wings, practically taking off in song. She was a beautiful bird, singing it's freedom.
Shyren thought about her future. Could she make a career out of this? Was she that good? Would she be able to perform for Waterfall? Or will the news spread to all of the Underground? Would she able to compete... or even PERFORM with Mettaton?
Whatever if could or not, the human was now humming a farwell song. Shyren grinned in what she hoped it was a sad and grateful way. She sang it back at them, and they left to go on their adventure.
Now she was wondering where had all that bravery was.
Many monsters after that asked her to sing again. She had said yes, still high on the merryness of it all. Although, she wished she thought about it a little more. Maybe staying a scared monster wasn't so bad. It was better than going up there again, and getting ridiculed. The was a CHANCE that she will mess up. If there is a chance, then why risk it? But... she will let all of those monsters down... What will they think of her? Either she will the the monster who completely botched her performance, or be the monster who didn't even try.
Shyren sank low to the floor, hicupping. She let her hopeless tears come, and stated at the suddenly pretty cavern floor.
"What's wrong?" It echoed around the room. A very familiar voice. Shyren looked up to see her new sister, Lemon Bread.
Shyren flipped her hair over her face, trying to hide the fact that she was crying. "Nothing, don't worry about it." Why should her sister know what she was going through? It was her own fault. She will find a way...
"Sister." Lemon Bread insisted. "It's not nothing, just tell me. You will make me worry if you don't." Shyren stood up, shaking her head. "It's stupid... I'm sorry."
The air filled with the scent of lemons. Lemon Bread drew closer to her. "Tell me. Even if it's stupid, I am your sister. A... pretty messed up one, but I'm your sister nonetheless." Shyren choked sadly. Was Lemon Bread... maybe embrassed by the way she looked? Maybe she thought she was embrassing her? She will have to ask later.
"I told some monsters I would do another show for them. But..." Shyren looked to her new friend, the floor. "But got stage fright now, and I don't want to perform. But I don't what to let them down..." Shyren looked up to see Lemon Bread gnashing her teeth in thought.
