"Remind me again why we're doing this?" I said bitterly, dragging my feet down the stony path, walking between Julia and Darcy to San's house.
"Because she invited us and we should go." Darcy hissed back.
San was having her eighteenth tomorrow, and had invited Darcy and I to join Ameera, Kala and her for a sleep over tonight. Tomorrow, she would be inviting a few others to her birthday dinner.
At least, that's what we thought..
At the last minute, she texted saying that there would be a few changes to the sleep over and instead of it just being the five of us, she'd decided to invite a couple more people. She also said Darcy and I should feel free to bring a plus one.
I would rather be anywhere else than at San's place.
Initially, I would have found this something to look forward to, but with the way the three of them had been acting lately, I didn't want to show up at all.
Darcy had somehow persuaded me to go, saying it'd be good for us all to get any misunderstandings off our chests there and then and continue as friends at least. Julia just wanted to pick a fight and eat some food.
To be honest - so did I.
I was dressed in a navy spaghetti strap top, pyjama shorts, furry slippers and a blanket.
The shorts were a bad idea seeing as the walk up to San's was pretty long and it was cold out.San lived with her older sister and cousin in an apartment in Central London. I'd been to their place a couple of times before and from what I could remember, it was pretty impressive. My favourite thing about it being their balcony as it overlooked a large area of the city.
I had a really bad feeling about this party. Things would either be awkward, forced or fake and I wasn't in the mood to deal with any of that.
"I haven't been to a sleep over since I was ten."
"Tell me about it."
"When you get past twelve, it's called a girls night in." Julia smirked. We arrived outside the flats. San was number seven, so we pressed the buzzer and waited.
"Noah? Darcy? That you guys?" A voice came through the door entry phone.
"Sure is." I rolled my eyes.
"Come on up!"She unlocked the door and we rushed through and up the steps to number seven.
There was a 'Birthday Girl' banner on the door and we could hear loud music and chatting inside.
The door to the apartment itself was left unlocked, so we strolled in.
"You came! I haven't seen you guys in ages!" San said excitedly, stepping out of the living room into their hallway.
"Happy birthday. Well.. for tomorrow." I said, straining myself to sound cheery.
Darcy handed her a giftbag and smiled.
"Awh, guys, you didn't have to-"
"Yeah, right. Where's the food?" Julia interrupted, pushing past us to go into the lounge.
"Who the hell is that?" San whispered urgently.
"That is Julia." Darcy began.
"The best of Blake and Brandon in female form. You remember her from my dinner don't you?" I said casually, following Julia into the lounge. This party was about to kick off...
🍰🍰🍰
Twelve a.m sharp.
Darcy, Julia and I, along with around fifteen other girls, had gathered around San and were singing happy birthday to her.
Her sister and cousin had really outdone themselves with this sleep over thing.
