Chapter 28

In an attempt to stop further bloodshed, Rick meets and negotiates with The Governor in a barn, who shows himself to be unarmed but secretly he has a pistol taped underneath their table. Both men have brought their respective support, as outside Daryl and Hershel meet with Martinez and Milton. The initially hostile groups begin to socialize with each other, as Daryl and Martinez kill walkers together and Milton examines Hershel's leg.

Andrea enters the barn to join their discussion. Rick reveals his plan of a clear territorial division with a river as a border, but The Governor refuses and is present only to accept the surrender of Rick's group. The Governor dismisses Andrea, as does Rick, so they can talk further.

Outside, Hershel confirms to Andrea that The Governor abused Maggie, before offering her the chance to come back to their group.

Back at the prison, Merle wants revenge and is fearful for his brother, and even though Ava is still very hurt and upset with Daryl she is also fearful for her husband. Merle argues to preemptively attack The Governor at the meeting, but the others are committed to obeying Rick's orders and stay put, fearful of potential casualties. Even though Ava is also a bit angry with Merle she agrees with him, but also wants to listen to what Rick said and stay put.

Meanwhile in the meeting, The Governor blames Merle for his atrocities. He reveals that he has surveillance on Rick's group and warns that Woodbury has superior manpower and firepower. Eventually The Governor offers whiskey and relates his sympathetic story about his wife's death, to which Rick drinks.

However, Rick expresses some skepticism, though The Governor then reveals one final offer: Rick must hand over Michonne or have his whole group annihilated. The Governor gives him two days to decide and meet.

Both groups depart after the meeting and though reluctant, Andrea chooses to go with The Governor and his group. The Governor returns to Woodbury and secretly orders Martinez to set an ambush at the barn, to bring Michonne back alive, and to kill Rick and any of his people who show up to the meeting.

Milton takes exception to the ruthlessness of the plan but does not press the issue, while the Governor keeps the agreement terms from Andrea.

At the prison, Rick tells the group that the Governor wants them all dead and that they are going to war. This scares Ava, as she fears something might happen to her son Hunter, though Hunter is ready and willing to fight for his group and family, which worries Ava even more.

Rick privately confides to Hershel the true terms of the agreement but, while knowing The Governor would kill them all anyway, he must consider the possibility it would not happen and if safety for the prison can be guaranteed in exchange for one member.

Ava's P. O. V

"Hunter" I begin but he cuts me off before I can get another word out of my mouth "no mom, this is my family as well so I have every right to help them protect this place, our home, besides I'm sure you and dad will have my back just like the rest of the group, so there's nothing to worry bout k mom" "I don't know..." "He's right Ava between me and you he will be fine" I hear Daryl say from the cell door, I wanted to glare at him but found myself looking at him with a pleading look as if asking him to promise me he will look out for our son. Hunter must have known it was his time to go so he said bye to me and Daryl before saying "I'm gonna go clean my gun and make me some more bolts, when ya finished in here can ya help me dad?" "Sure, Hunter" Daryl says back to him, then turned to look at me "look Ava" I hold up my hand "if ya promise ya gonna look out for him ya better mean it, and do it Daryl" I say cutting him off, he came and sat beside me looking into my eyes and grabbing my hands in his "Ava, look I promise ya I will protect Hunter, I will protect ya as well when we have to fight this Governor dick, k I promise ya hun, I love ya so much I don't wanna hurt ya again, I will die before I do dat to ya and Hunter and I'm sorry I hurt ya Av, I will.." I cut him off again but this time with my lips crashing on his sliding my tongue into his mouth, pulling back after a few minutes "whoa, where did dat come from? Not dat I mind, so does dis mean" "yes, Dare I forgive ya, I'm sorry I've been such a fuckin bitch to ya and slapping and punching ya, it's just" "shut up Av, I had all of dat coming, hell ya could have done worse, I'm sorry hun I really am" I smiled at him "I love ya Daryl Dixon forever and always" he smirked at me "I love ya to Ava Dixon forever and always" and we sealed it with another kiss I pulled away after a few seconds lightly slapping his chest "now go help ya son with making some bolts" he gave me one last smile before getting up and walking out of our cell. 'I fuckin love dat reckneck' I think to myself.

That's it for this chapter, I was gonna make Ava stay angry with Daryl for a while longer but thought against it, cause I can't wait to write the fight part. 😊
