Chapter 38

R. I. P Hershel 😭😭

The governor captures Michonne and Hershel and convinces his camp to help him take the prison. Lilly however, is not convinced, but The Governor reassures her that her family will be safe. While Michonne seethes, The Governor dismisses Hershel's proposal for the two groups to coexist peacefully.

At the prison, Daryl is upset at Rick for exiling Carol after learning she killed Karen and Davis and the two decide to tell Tyreese about her involvement in the murders. Tyreese discovers a dissected rabbit and believes whoever did it was the killer. Rick tells him otherwise, but before he can explain, the three hear a large explosion, signaling The Governor's arrival.

While Daryl formulates an escape plan, The Governor gives Rick an ultimatum to leave the prison or be killed, using Michonne and Hershel as leverage. Rick tries to reason with The Governor, who becomes frustrated and holds Michonne's katana to Hershel's neck.

Rick appeals to the militia claiming that everyone isn't too far gone and they could still peacefully live together and resolve their differences, echoing Hershel's statements. The Governor calls Rick a liar, and swings Michonne's sword at Hershel's neck, partially decapitating him, and prompting Rick and the prison inhabitants to open fire.

Ava's P. O. V

My heart broke when I saw the governor slice into Hershel's neck nearly taking it off, I heard Maggie and Beth crying loudly shooting towards to the governor and his army, I was also shooting my AK-47 aiming at that cunt that killed Merle; the governor. "Hunter!" I scream as he almost got shoot "I'm akay" he shouts back.

Michonne, taking advantage of the situation, rolls away and unties herself. A severely wounded Hershel attempts to crawl away, but The Governor catches him and repeatedly strikes him with the sword, severing his head and killing him. His family no longer trusting him, he has no use for the prison, and he orders his militia to run down the fences and kill all the prison inhabitants.

Ava's P. O. V

I see the tank destroying the fence leaving the prison vulnerable, and the militia infiltrates the prison. I see Rick ambush The Governor and the two struggle in a fist fight. With the tank blasting holes in the prison, we take the inhabitants begin boarding the evacuation bus.

I dodge on coming bullets as I'm running to get to Hunter, so I can get him on the bus, I hide behind a turned over table and start shooting, once I get to him I quickly check him over "thank God ya alright, now quickly get to the bus" I say "but what bout you? I can't leave ya here mom" "I'll be right behind ya Hunter, I got the gun so I can cover ya, so when I say go, run to the bus with the others" I order him, he gives me a look "k, love ya mom" I smile back at him and we both say at the same time "like the ocean" I give him a quick kiss, look around to make sure it's good for him to go "GO" I yell at him while I fire at the governors men, when I see Hunter get to the bus I sigh in relief then I start to run to the bus as well. 'Daryl' I think 'where da hell is Daryl' I start to panic.

"ahh" I yelp a walker had came up behind me and took a hold of my hair and pulling me back 'think fast' I think, so I grip my knife in my hand and do the only thing I can which is cutting it thru my hair, the walker stumbles backwards with my hair still tangled in it's hand before I can kill it, I feel a sudden pain in my upper thigh making me scream out, but I still managed to roll to the side and out of the way of more on coming bullet's "MOM!" I hear Hunter yell at me "I'm fine! Get back in dat bus Hunter NOW!!" I see him about to run out but a hand grabs him back 'thank you, whoever ya are' I thought, then that's when I saw Maggie run out if the bus, then I see her taking a sick Glenn aboard, but then gets back off again I quickly run up to her "where the hell are ya going?" I yell "Beth, I gotta find Beth, she got back off after I went to get Glenn" she yells back, then before I know she's disappeared amongst the walkers "fuck" I say then run off after her, but don't see her only walkers so I just start killing them with my knife even though I can feel my thigh burning in pain I keep going, then I suddenly hear crying "Judith" I mumble, then the crying stops which makes my heart stop 'God no' "AVA!" It was Crystal and she had Judith in her arms, "thank God ya alright" I tell her as I quickly hug her "look out!" Crystal yelled and I turned just in time to stab my knife into a walkers head just to pull it out and do it to another that was coming at me from the opposite side, once I took them down I looked to Crystal "we gotta go, come on" I say as I grab her free hand and pull her into the woods, we keep running for a few minutes till I had to stop my thigh was really hurting me now "are ya alright Ava?" I hear Crystal ask slightly scared before I can answer her we hear a big explosion.

~~~Third persons view~~~

Maggie, Sasha, and Bob flee the prison after the bus drives off and Bob is shot. Tara shaken by the gunfire, runs off. As a large number of walkers stream through the downed fences, Tyreese is cornered by Alisha and another soldier, but both are killed by Lizzie and Mika.

The children then run towards the prison, with Tyreese following them, telling them to go the other way. Daryl blows up the tank with a grenade, which kills Mitch and then flees the prison with Beth, hoping his wife and son have made it out.

The Governor nearly strangles Rick to death, but Michonne stabs him through the chest and leaves him lying on the ground to die. Searching for Judith, Rick and Carl find only her empty, bloody baby carrier. Devastated, the pair limps off from the prison.

Meanwhile, The Governor lies dying in the field as walkers, among them a reanimated Clara move into the prison. Lilly approaches the wounded Governor and bitterly shoots him in the head.

Carl and Rick walk away from the prison, watching as hundreds of walkers stream in. Rick turns Carl away and tells him, "Don't look back, Carl. Just keep walking."
