Chapter 34

Maggie and Ava in header

In the inner courtyard, Tyreese explains to Rick, Carol and Daryl how he found the brunt corpses of his girlfriend Karen and friend David. Tyreese demands that Rick find the killer; when Rick tries to calm him down, a frustrated Tyreese turns violent and attacks Rick while Daryl tries to stop it. Rick flies into a rage and badly beats Tyreese before Daryl pulls Rick off.

After bandaging Rick's hand, Hershel and the rest of the prison's council decide to quarantine those who are sick in Cell Block A and separate the elderly and the children. Here is when Daryl learns his son Hunter and Tyreese's sister Sasha Glenn, Lizzie and the prison's doctor Caleb Subramanian are among those who contract the virus and are forced to enter quarantine.

Hershel suggests that they could search a veterinary college for medical supplies, and Daryl, Michonne and Bob volunteer to retrieve the medicine.

Ava's P. O. V

I was waiting on Daryl to finish his council meeting I had to tell him bout Hunter, I heard the door to the room open which they were in and quickly got off the floor waiting for Daryl once he came out I thru my arm's around him in a hug as I started to sob "Dare" "I know" was all he said as he to wrapped his arms around my waist "h-he wants to see you before w-we can't go near him" I hugged him tighter "I'll go see him now before I go" "go? Go where?!" I cut him off "I'm going to a veterinary college not that far to retrieve the medicine, to make Hunter better" we both head off to cell block A so Daryl can see Hunter "I'm gonna get the medicine Hunt, it will help ya, i promise I'll be back, but ya promise me something to, ya promise ta be strong til I get back k?" "Ok dad, I will"

After escorting the sick into Cell Block A, Carol notices that they are low in water and informs Rick about it, with the two agreeing to clean the cistern the next day. Rick cautiously approaches Tyreese to comfort him and apologize for his actions, but Tyreese dismisses it and fiercely walks off.

Maggie tearfully reports Glenn's illness to her sister Beth, who assures her sister that they have jobs to do, as their father always says. Hershel, with the help of Carl and Ava retrieves elderberries to make tea to act as a remedy for the sick. The two encounter two harmless walkers; Hershel advises Carl not to kill them, as it is unnecessary and Ava agrees.

Tyreese, after guarding the infected survivors from Karen's killer, bids farewell to a sick Sasha and leaves with Daryl's group to get the medicine. He tells Carol, who offers him condolences, to watch over Sasha for him, but after he leaves, Carol breaks down in tears.

Maggie sees her father approaching the quarantined zone, and warns him about possible exposure, with support from Rick. Hershel counters by saying that they always risk their lives every day: the only thing they can do now is decide what they are risking it for, with his being his ability to save the lives of the infected.

Rick investigates the murder scene, and notices a bloody hand print. While driving to the college, Daryl talks to Michonne about hunting for the governor when they suddenly hear a voice over the car radio repeating the words 'Sanctuary...those who arrive....Survive' distracted Daryl drives into a massive herd, forcing the group to leave their vehicle, except for a morose Tyreese. Tyreese eventually snaps out of it, but he is overwhelmed by the walkers, forcing the remaining three to leave him. However, he miraculously survives the swarm and regroups with the others.

After Rick rescues Carol, who had recklessly gone out of the prison to clean the pump on her own, from walkers, Rick tells Carol that he has noticed how far she is willing to go to protect the group of survivors. He then asks her if she killed Karen and David. After a brief pause, she responds with a simple, "Yes," and then walks away silently.

Ava's P. O. V

"Glenn's in there to" Maggie told me "aww Mags" I say as I wrap my arms around her in a tight hug "I know exactly how ya feel" I say in a sad voice "but just like Hunter, Glenn is strong he will fight this for YOU" I continue "besides they all have ya dad looking after them plus the Dr, so they are in the best care that they can get. And Daryl has gone with some others to get some medicine that should help them" "yeah your right, thanks Ava, sorry for" "don't worry Mags, ya been there for me and I will be there for ya to ok, besides ya one of my best friends here, sorry I haven't spent much time with ya in the pass couple of days" "it's fine Ava, I know what you and Daryl were doing" she chuckles out, making me also laugh "yah, and besides I got rewarded for it" I say making us both laugh loudly "come on, baby Dixon is hungry" as I give her my hand and pull her of the grass and we head back inside the prison.
