Twenty Five

We pulled up outside of my mom and uncle Jessie's house.

We grabbed our luggage, and we all began walking inside.

When you first walk into the house, there's a big foyer, and then when you walk through that there's the living room.

I told Shawn to wait in the foyer so he can surprise my mom.

I walked into the living room and instantly saw my mom and uncle Jessie sitting on the couch.

Once they saw me, they got up and walked towards me with their arms wide open.

"Hi sweetheart!" Is what my uncle Jessie said once I was in his arms.

"Hey Uncle J" I let go and smiled up at him, before turning around and walking into my moms arms.

"I missed you honey." She said sweetly, and I was surprised. Again, she doesn't like that I moved out with Noah, she doesn't like that I'm on tour without her or my brother, and she doesn't like that I'm dating Shawn.

Just as I was about to call Shawn into the room, my mom spoke up first.

"I knew your little boyfriend wouldn't have came with you. He knows he's not good enough for you, and he obviously doesn't want anything serious if he doesn't want to meet your family."

I saw Noah quickly turn his head to look at me with a shocked expression.

I cleared my throat, and said "actually-" but I was interrupted by Shawn walking up behind me.

"uh hi Ms.Sanders, I'm Shawn."

I moved out of the way so that he could walk up to my mom. She looked a bit embarrassed by what she said before, but I knew she didn't feel bad.

He held his hand out for her, and she hesitated.

Eventually she shook it, and then sat back down on the couch. She motioned for us to sit down as well.

Shawn and I sat on the love seat together while my mom sat on a single chair across from us, and my Uncle Jessie and Noah sat on the couch.

"So.." Is all my mom said.

"Look mom, I know you've been thinking negative thoughts about Shawn lately, but it's only because you don't know him."

She rolled her eyes and shook her head.

"I don't need to know him for me to know that he isn't a good influence on you." she said sternly.

"He isn't a bad influence at all. I don't know where you're even getting that from."

She crossed one leg over the other, and gave Shawn a bit of a glare.

"Oh I don't know, maybe the fact that you guys started dating as soon as you started a tour together, which seems to me like a publicity stunt. You want more people to go to your shows and you want more people to know both of your names."

My eyebrows knotted together while I shook my head in disbelief.

"You don't know what you're talking about. Shawn and I love each other." I spat back.

I could tell Shawn was about to say something, but of course my mom jumped in first.

"Yeah right, no boy that makes you bawl over the phone because he's trusting another girl over you and treating you like you're not important, loves you Brinley. He doesn't."

Shawn whipped his head over to me, and I could see so much hurt in his eyes. He doesn't know that I called my mom and told her about Maggie. Honestly, I didn't want to call her. But I felt guilty for not reaching out to her enough, and also because I used to talk to her about all my problems. It just felt like the right thing to do at the time.
