Twenty Three

Shawn and I are currently watching 'The Heat'. We are sitting on the couch in our hotel room, and his arm is wrapped over my shoulders.

I continuously heard his adorable chuckles as he got into the movie.

I smiled up at him, and he quickly looked at me, smiled back, and then brought his attention back to the tv.

I suddenly heard my phone vibrate on the coffee table in front of us, and we both quickly looked at the caller ID. It was my brother.

"I'll be right back" I said, standing up from the couch and walking into the hallway.

I answered the call and lifted the phone to my ear. "Hello?"

"Hey Brin!"

"Hey Noah, what's up?"

"Well, mom and uncle Jessie wanted you to come visit."

"They want me to come to LA?" I said, sounding shocked. Ever since I left on this tour, my mom has basically disowned me.

"Yup. And they want you to bring Shawn. They really want to meet him."

I thought about it for a second, and remembered that after our next show we have a week long break before our Detroit show.

"I'll talk to Shawn and get back to you."

I said goodbye to Noah and walked back into the room.

I walked right past Shawn and over to the window.

"Baby?" I said, still looking out at the city. I'm worried he's not gonna want to meet my mom.

"Yes sweetheart?"

I turned and saw him looking over at me. He looked confused, but was smiling big.

"My mom and uncle want to meet you. I was thinking we could visit them in LA on our week break."

He froze as soon as I said it.

"Brin, I'd love to but I told my family I'd go visit them in Toronto."

I sighed. "Ok, I understand."

I sat down beside him and opened my messages.

To: Noah

Shawn can't make it :/

From: Noah

Aw really? That's too bad. Mom was excited to meet him

To: Noah

I was excited for him to meet her too. I never would've thought mom would want to see him, so it would've been nice :/

From: Noah

Oh well, maybe another time.

I felt Shawn place his hand on my thigh, and I looked up at him.

"I'm really sorry babe, I would love to meet your mom and uncle. I just don't have the heart to tell my family that I can't come visit them" he said sympathetically.

"I would never expect you to cancel plans with your family, don't worry about it" I replied, trying my best to smile.

"Then why do you seem upset?" he asked.

I didn't say anything for a few seconds.

"Well.. I didn't want to tell you this but when my mom first found out about us, she didn't think you were a good influence on me and didn't approve of us being together. Obviously she didn't know what she was talking about, but she thought she did. I was excited for her to be able to meet you so she could see that she was wrong all along."

He looked upset. "Why didn't she approve of us?"

"At first it was just because she thought you were using me to get publicity. But she never has approved of me going on a world tour with you or dating you."

I quickly glanced up at him to see a shocked and sad expression.

"She can't dislike me when she doesn't even know me." He kept his eyes glued to the floor.

"I know babe, that's why I want to prove her wrong. You're the sweetest person I've ever met, and I know that if she gets to know you then she'll love you as well. She's going through a really hard time right now and has been ever since she left my dad. And now that I left her and my uncle to go on tour, I don't really blame her for being worried if she doesn't know who you are. Maybe meeting you will make her feel better about the whole thing."

He took a deep breath and nodded his head. "I agree."

I gave him a small smile. "So we'll plan a visit to LA the next time we're both available."

He nodded again and pulled me into him. "I hope she likes me.."
