A cold wind whipped around me, nipping at my cheeks. My eyelids fluttered slightly and yet they still stayed closed. The tension in my body grew the longer I laid out on the hard surface below me, but I didn't want to move. The way I huddled into myself was the only way I knew to keep warm in the ever-dropping temperature.

When I finally opened my eyes and took in my surroundings I could feel my heart as it began to pick up speed. I sat up slowly, my hands running over the wooden slats of the bench I had been lying on. My feet dropped to the ground as I sat up fully, my body slouching sideways into the metal armature that held the bench together.

My lips part is awe. It looked exactly the way it did in real life. The gravel trail in front of me curved out of sight as I sat there staring through the thin line of trees at the large lake Bryce and I had visited the week before.

A light snow began to fall as my eyes traveled around the area. A hole started to grow in the pit of my stomach as it turned over, flashes of when Bryce and I sat close together and listened to music clouded my mind. Her smile, the way she tilted her head in interest whenever I spoke. It all flooded my brain and in an instantly it disappeared, like she had never been apart of my life to begin with.

I turned my head quickly to the right and I tensed momentarily at the sight of my shadow sitting next to me. He said nothing. He didn't even look at me, but instead we sat in utter silence and in that moment I tried my hardest to bring back the memories of Bryce that had been there only seconds before. But there was nothing. I couldn't even picture what her face looked like.

My eyes grew wide as he finally moved. His arm rose up ever so slowly, my chest heaving with anticipation. I followed his outstretched hand as it pointed out straight ahead of us.

A slight gasp left my lungs as I made a move to stand, but something halted my actions. There out on the ice was the same stranger I had never gotten a chance to meet. They stood motionless on the lake's icy surface that was blanketed in white.

My chest hurt as my heart pounded in my ears and it was then that I turned to my shadow and spoke desperately. "What do I do?"

He sat there, his arm now resting back at his side. I flinched and jumped slightly at the sound of cracking ice, but I still didn't move.

"Nothing," His deep voice came out as an airy whisper.

My eyes snapped shut as the harsh noise of the breaking ice rattled through the trees. But I didn't look. I didn't do anything.
