My body shook to life as the cold wetness of the snow seeped through my clothes and numbed my skin. Tree branches shrouded my vision as I stared up into the dull grey sky above my head.

The tips of my bangs were hard and covered in frost as they pricked the skin of my forehead. It was quiet and a soft breeze blew through the trees, shaking them and allowing a light dusting of snow to flutter down to the ground.

For once I felt safe in my own dream. I didn't feel any nerves and the thought of my shadow was the furthest thing from my mind.

I had control. And though it was such a freeing feeling to have, it still felt as though I didn't know what to do with it. Because I didn't know what normal dreams were supposed to be like.

So I laid there in the cold, snowy depths of my mind. I wished for it to stay like this forever. I could live with this numb feeling.

My body tensed and my breath hitched as the sound of footsteps echoed through the still trees, the hair on my arms standing up. I was no longer alone.
