My body shook uncontrollably, but I couldn't tell if it was from adrenaline or shock. The feeling in my hands had disappeared a long time ago and I continued to hold onto the pale hand with all my might in hopes of pulling the stranger from the depths of the lake.
I couldn't picture them anymore - this person I was so desperately trying to hold onto. And that feeling was devastating because I knew they were important.
Tears formed in my eyes the harder I tried to remember, but there were only hazy flashes of faded memories. A curtain of fog descended around me and I screamed out as I pulled harder on the hand in my clutches.
"Stop trying."
I gasped in surprised and looked up to see my shadow hovering over me and the hole in the ice.
"Just stop trying-"
