A Beautiful Disaster

Chapter 17

I woke up by the smell of eggs and fresh herbs. I got out of bed and put on my robe, covering my bare body.

"Morning", I said and kissed her cheek. "Good morning", she said smiling. "Smells fantastic", I said. "Sit down then. It's almost done", she said.

I smiled and did as she said. She handed me a cup of coffee and kissed the top of my head.

"Why are you so sweet to me?", I asked. "No reason. You deserve it at least once a week." I smiled and took a sip of my coffee.

After a little while, she put a plate in front of me. There were eggs, toast and sausages.
"I didn't know Italians ate this as well", I said. "We don't. I just guessed you liked it", she said smiling. "Well I do", I said taking a bite of the eggs.

"This is so good", I said. She smiled as she took a bite of hers. "I know right."

I checked my phone to see if I got any message, but nothing. I hadn't heard from Rae since her call, 2 weeks ago.
I reached for the ring around my neck, but couldn't find it.

"Have you seen my necklace?", I asked. "What necklace?" "The one with the ring. I need it", I said as I stood up. I walked into the bedroom and opened every drawer I could find. I threw the sheets off the bed and flipped over the pillows.

"Fuck!", I yelled. "What's wrong?", Lucia said as she walked in. "I can't find my necklace. I need it back", I said walking into the bathroom.

I searched in the cabinets and threw out the towels. Not in there.
I searched in the laundry basket where I had finally found it. "Thank god", I said as I put it back around my neck.

I held on to it as tight as possible.

"I'm sorry", I said as I walked back to Lucia. "That necklace just means a lot to me. I can't lose it."

That moment, I had decided I needed to go back home. I needed to clear things up with Rae and find out where we are in our relationship. If it's even something you can call a relationship.

"Lucia", I said grabbing her hands. She looked at me and smiled. "I uh, I think it's time for me to go home", I said. Her smile faded at my words. "I see", she said as she released from my grip.

"When are you leaving?", she asked. "I don't know yet. But I'm planning the be back home by friday." She nodded. "So two days." "I'm sorry", I said. "It's okay. I get it."

I pulled her in for a hug.

"I did have an amazing few months with you", I said. "Me too."
"I'll be back soon. I promise", I said as I pulled away. "But not alone I suppose", she said. "What do you mean?"

She pointed at the ring around my neck.

"Right.. Well, it's complicated actually", I said. "You don't need to explain." A weak smile appeared on her face. Without any hesitation, I leaned in and pecked her lips.

"I really like you", I said. "But you don't love me like I do."

I sighed.

"Like I said, it's complicated. Just give me some time to figure everything out", I said as I moved a string of hair behind her ear.

"I should book my flight", I said. She nodded.

I sat at the table and opened my laptop.

As I looked for tickets, all I could think of was how things were going to be when I got back.

I found a flight that was leaving tomorrow at 4 pm. I decided I should get that one.

As soon as I had booked the flight, I walked into the bedroom to pack my things.
