I got thrown into jail, seperated from Demi. "Where is she?! I need to see her!", I yelled. I got ignored.

Tears started to form in my eyes. I screamed and hit the wall.

I leaned against the wall and let myself slide down to the floor.

"This wasn't supposed to happen", I whispered to myself.

I then heard one of the gates open and close again. I got up.

"Rae!", she said the second she saw me. "You have 2 minutes", the guard said. She ran up to me and stuck her arms through the bars to hug me.

"Are you okay?!", I said looking at her. She nodded. "Are you?" I nodded. "I'm scared", she said.

I cupped her face.

"I'm going to get us out of here okay? I promise. Just hang on." She shook her head. "No Rae. I'm in big trouble now. There's no way I'll be out anytime soon. Don't promise things you can't hold on to", she said. "Don't say that. I will find a way."

"Times up!", the guard said. "Ask for a lawyer", I said. She nodded. "I love you." "I love you too", she said. She got pulled away again.

A guard opened the gate and pulled me out. He dragged me to a room. I assumed I was going to get questioned.

I sat on a chair and he cuffed me to the table. He walked out without saying anything.

I just stared out in front of me, thinking about what I was going to say. I could tell the truth, but then she'll still get jail time.

The door opened. I looked up.

"I'm detective Miller, I'm her to ask you a few questions." He sat down in front of me and opened a file.
He took out a few pictures. Pictures of Cassidy.

I took a deep breath.

"Do you know who this is?", he asked. I nodded. "Could you tell me what happened?" I sighed.

"She uh, she was very abusive. I was picking up my stuff when she suddenly started kicking and hitting me. Then Demi got inside and Cassidy started beating her up when Demi saw me passed out on the floor. When I woke up, I saw Demi and Cassidy fight for a bit. So I told her to just shut her up, you know. And she did", I said. "It was my fault." He nodded.

"That's not the story we heard from Demi. She said it was all her."

I shook me head.

"She just wants to protect me. It was all me. I told her to do it. But it was self defense. Cassidy had almost killed me already. Who knows what had happened if we didn't do anything."

"I've heard enough", he said as he stood up.

"Can I please see her for a little while?", I said before he walked out. "I'll see what I can do." He shut the door behind him.

I sighed and finally let the tears come that I've been holding in. I didn't want to be one of those dramatic people. I just wanted to tell the story.

A guard walked in again and took off my cuffs. Then he left again without a word. I turned to the mirrored window and shrugged my shoulders.

"What's happening?", I asked.

I just sat back down.

I played with my sleeves for a bit when the door opened. It was Demi. But not entirely. She had bags under her eyes and not a single smile formed on her face when she saw me. She was so pale. And the light in her eyes had fully disappeared.

I stood up and immediately pulled her in for a hug.

Her arms tightly wrapped around me. I rubbed her back when I felt her pull on my shirt. All I wanted was for her to be safe. For her to be free. But there was nothing I could do.

"I'm sorry", I said.
