A Beautiful Disaster

Chapter 25

We grabbed our bags from the trunk and walked into the airport.

"Wait here", she said as we got to the desk. I nodded. "It's going to be okay", she said rubbing my cheek. I pulled her in for a hug. Tears escaped my eyes as I buried my face in her chest.

She held me tight and rubbed my back. "I won't leave your side. I just need to get us the tickets. I'll be right back", she said as she kissed my forehead. I nodded.

I looked around me and sat down. There were a lot of security guards walking around. Even a cop once in a while. I was afraid they would come after me. I thought they knew what I did.

"Let's go", Rae said as she walked up to me. "Our flight is in two hours. We'll just have to wait here okay?" I gave her a weak smile.

She cupped my face. "You'll have to act like nothing happen okay? I promise, we'll be fine. I'll make sure of that."

She took my bags from me. "You don't have to carry those", I said. She looked back at me and smiled. "It's okay."

I locked our arms and took one of my bags back from her. "I got this", I said.

We walked through customs.

"So where are we going?", I asked. "Italy", she said smiling. "I'd figured you'd feel better there." I smiled. "Just don't cheat on me again with your ex", she said. I hit her arm. "I wouldn't do that. Never again", I said. She smiled. "I was kidding. Just trying to make you relax."

We put down our bags and I sat down. "I'm going to get us something to drink okay? Water?", she asked. I nodded. "Maybe a snack as well?", I asked smiling.

She smiled back and me and nodded. "I'll be right back", she said and pecked my lips.

I watched her as she walked away.

I wanted to reach for my necklace, but I couldn't find it. My eyes widened and I grabbed my backpack. I searched through my stuff.

"What are you doing?", Rae said as she sat down next to me. "I lost my necklace", I whispered. "Are you sure? Have you checked your pockets and the bags?", she asked. "Not every bag", I said. "Check them. I'll look around the airport", she said. I nodded and searched through my bags.

After a little while Rae came back. "Nothing", she said. "Me either."

"Do you think it's.. at the hotel?", I whispered. I got really scared. If the police would find that necklace, I'd be screwed.

"I'll be right back", she said. "Where are you going?", I asked. "To the hotel." "Just act normal okay. I just forgot something at home", she added. I nodded. "Please be safe." She smiled and softly kissed my lips. "30 minutes", she said. I nodded. She grabbed her bag and keys and walked away.

I let out a deep sigh and checked my bags once again. Still nothing.

A tear escaped from my eye, but I quickly wiped it away. I checked my pockets and the seats. Even the floor. But still nothing.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. "It'll be okay. It's just in the car somewhere", I said to myself.

I took a sip from my water and took out my phone. I wanted to be right here when she calls or texts me.

Then my phone rang. "Rae? Are you okay?", I said. "Yeah I'm fine. But it's full of cops. I can't go in", she said. "Just come back, please", I said. "On my way. Are you okay?" "I guess. Just hurry."
"I will, I love you", she said.

My heart skipped a beat and a smile formed on my face.

"I love you too."
