Rae's pov.
Six months had gone by. Almost everything was still the same as before. Demi was still in prison, and I was still working at the day care.
The only thing that changed is that we had broken up.
She had been cheating on me multiple times, with that girl Macy. She said it was because Macy reminded her of me. But we're nothing alike.
We'd been broken up for about 2 months now.
I was saving up my money so I could move out before Demi got back. I didn't want to have anything to do with her anymore.
I was cleaning up the kitchen when the phone rang.
"Hello?", I said. "Hi", I heard a familiar voice say. "Demi.." "Yeah, sorry for bothering you", she said. "What do you want?", I asked. "I need to see you.. Even if its just one minute." "I don't see why I should come", I said.
"I miss you.. I miss hearing your voice, I miss holding your hands. I just miss seeing you. Please, just one last time." I let out a deep sigh. "Fine. Visiting hour is at 4. I'll see you then", I said. "Thank you. I can't wait."
I hung up the phone and walked back into the kitchen. I shook my head. "Why do I keep doing this..", I said to myself. I sighed.
I emptied the bucket of water and put it back under the sink. I dried my hands and poured myself a drink.
The doorbell rang. I sighed and opened the door.
"Marissa? I haven't seen you since Demi left", I said. She nodded. "I know. But I need to talk to you about her", she said. "Come in." She did as I said and we sat down.
"So what about her?", I asked. "She's a mess, Rae. I went to visit her yesterday, and she's just not the same as before." "I know that. Why do you think I ended things with her?", I said. "But that's exactly the reason of all that. She felt like she was losing you and there was nothing she could do about it." I shook my head.
"She changed before we broke up. She cheated on me, Marissa.. In fucking prison. I couldn't do shit about it either." She nodded.
"I get it. But just please go see her." "I'm going to. Today", I said. She smiled. "Good. Just check on her, please." "That's what I've been doing for the past months", I said. "Thank you", she said as she pulled me in for a hug.
"I gotta go", she said and got up. "Tell her I said hi." I nodded. "Call me after, please." "I will", I said. She smiled and walked out.
I sighed and took a sip of my drink.
"Why does this has to be so stressing..", I whispered. "Stop taking over my life again."
I took a final big sip and went upstairs. I needed to relax for a bit so I decided to lay in bed for a little while.
My phone rang. I reached for it.
"Hello?", I said. "Hi, it's uh, it's Macy, Demi's.. cellmate." "Why are you calling me?", I asked. "I stole your number from Demi's notebook. I was hoping we could talk. Maybe tomorrow? I mean, you're already seeing Demi today."
"Why would I want to talk to you?", I asked. "Because it's about Demi.""Jesus christ, why is she so important today? What's with her?" "She uh.. she tried to kill herself yesterday. She is in medical. You're meeting her there today."
My eyes widened as I sat up.
"What?!" "I feel responsible. I need to clear things up. I owe you, and her that." I sighed. "Put me on the list. I'll be there." "Thank you", she said. And with that, she hung up.
