Skye's POV:
"Skye!!" Maddie bounced up to me. I steeled myself, seeing as it was only lunch and she's already happy. It just wasn’t a good sign. "Guess what?"
"Do I even want to know?" I sighed. It was Wednesday and I was still tired from the homework I did yesterday. I’d stayed up late because the guys got me home so late on Monday I didn't have time to do that day's work. They might be hot and talented, but they're freaking annoying as hell.
"HardCoreSouls! I found where they're performing tonight!!" she squealed.
"Um. O-kay..."NO! They're haunting me!
"They're playing at Juke's tonight, at 7:30. It's music night; random bands are playing. We have to go, Skye!"
"But... I have homework." I was stalling, knowing there was no use arguing with her.
"You told me you finished it all last night," Maddie said. "I'll pick you up after 6, because it's in the city. You better be ready!" And she bounced away.
I banged my head against the wall. "Why me?" I muttered. I considered copying the Harry Potter Puppet Pal thing from YouTube, and going, "Angst, angst" but decided against it. People already think I was weird. No need to make that 'psycho'.
My life was being run by 3 (hot) band geeks and their crazy fan. Anyone want to trade?
I couldn't escape from them. They're everywhere! NOOOOO......
*** (At Juke’s) ***
"Hey, nice hair!" Some drunken dude was yelling across the street. "And even nicer body... Wanna come... check out mine!"
I stopped, and gave him the finger. I didn’t know if it registered or not; he was that drunk. Before I could give him a clearer message, Maddie dragged me into the cafe.
"I really wish you wouldn’t go looking for trouble like that," she sighed.
"He was asking for it!" I protested. "That was totally rude and disturbing. What would you do if it was you?"
"I wouldn’t go beat him up," she deadpanned. "Because you're the one capable of that."
I watched her flirt and get us a table. The place was crowded, some techno band was on stage, and people were dancing. The guy who let us have his table was now standing off to the side, still staring at Maddie. She winked, making him blush. I swear, that girl could be used as a weapon against guys. Who knew flirting could be so useful.
"They're on!" Maddie screamed in my ear. Not that I needed it.I could tell by all the girls that suddenly shrieked and crowded closer to the stage, pulling down their shirts to show more of their *cough* cleavage. WTF. The guys were here to perform, not look at girls. Except maybe Kevin. But he was serious about music too, believe it or not.
"What's up people?" Mike said into the mike (ha, get it?). "Are your souls ready to rock? Because we're the HardCoreSouls!"
Everyone cheered as they launched into a rock song. I started to relax, seeing everyone jumping to the beat. Music was a world I understood, and belonged to. Their second song I recognized. It was the song they showed me. I sat up.
Everyone slowed, listening as if mesmerized. The guys seemed really into the song. I could feel the emotion, and not just from Mike's voice either. The song seemed deeper. More real. I saw some girls crying silently. Yeah, eat that, girls. I smiled, feeling proud for some reason. This was a truly beautiful song.
HCS played another song after that, and then got off the stage to let a Goth band up. They (the HCS, not the Goth band… though the bass player was pretty good looking as well...) immediately got swarmed by girls, but managed to reach the bar to get a drink. Mike was polite but seemed to fend the girls off mostly, seemingly uninterested. Shane was oblivious, as usual, and I guess the girls found this hot but intimidating, because they kept their distance. Kevin obviously flirted back.
"Let's go!" Maddie grabbed me. "Who knows what bitch will get them! We should have a better chance, we met them before. Plus, we’re way awesome-r."
I let her drag me up to the boys, sighing. Why must I be around such crazy people?
"Hi! Uh, I'm Maddie," she said, suddenly shy. "Remember? We met last week? This is Skye. She sang for you, remember?"
"Hi," Mike smiled knowingly at me. "I remember Skye. What are you girls doing here?"
"You guys were amazing!" Maddie answered, beaming.
"Thanks," Mike said, smiling at her politely. He did everything politely, come to think of it. Strange.
The crowd around them had mostly dispersed, and Kevin got rid of the blonde he was flirting with, who was now in the arms of this buff, tattooed guy.Kevin grinned at Maddie. "He-llo, miss," he said smoothly. "Have we met before?"
Maddie giggled, flirting right back. I rolled my eyes.
"So how come you aren’t falling for Kevin's charms?" Shane asked me. Mike was texting on his phone.
"He's just not my type," I replied shrugging.
"Then what is your type?" He smirked.
I opened my mouth, then closed it. Was Shane flirting with me? No freaking way. He had so many admirers, why would he do that? Plus, he's so freaking impassive all the time. It's not like it meant anything... I DIDN’T want it to mean anything.
"Why do you care?" I retorted finally. "You interested?" Holy jumbo shrimps, why did I just say that?
Shane blinked, but that's it. Man, he just couldn’t emote outwardly, this guy… "No. Just curious." He took a gulp of his drink.
There was an awkward silence."So... you guys did really good," I said finally. "Sounded different than before."
Shane snorted. "We'd better, because Mike made us practice our ass off after you left."
"Was worth it though," Mike said suddenly, looking up. "Hey, sorry, girls, but we've got to go. See ya around."
The guys left, leaving Maddie smiling like a dork and me confused and annoyed. I teased her, "Someone's got the love-drunk face on!"
"Kevin's SO cute!" was her love-struck reply.
"Yeah, but," I said seriously. "He's a player, Maddie. And an expert one. So be careful." I didn’t want to see her hurt even if she's only my party buddy.
"Okay, mom," she grinned cheekily. "But you seem to be getting cozy with Shane over there."
"I was not!"She just smiled innocently.
We exited, and ran into none other than Sean. I was totally unprepared.
"Hey Skye," he smiled. "And Maddie. You guys here for the music?"
I nodded, smiling. "Music is my life."
"You missed it! HCS is the BEST band ever!" Maddie squealed.
"You mean that band with the emo-looking dudes?" Sean said. He shrugged. "They're okay, but not special, you know? Their music is simple and just like everything else. It's nice but not unique like this DJ up next. You gotta listen, Skye, if you've got taste in music."
"HCS has great music," argued Maddie. "Their songs are true and have emotion. And they're hot and cool. Their songs are original. HCS is the best. Right, Skye?"
I hesitated. HCS does have nice songs, and the guys are cool, not just because they're hot either. They deserve more credit than Sean was giving them. But I also didn't want to disagree with Sean. "They're pretty cool."
Maddie glared at me, as if I committed a crime just because I didn’t declare my utmost devotion to the band. "HARDCORESOULS ALL THE WAY!!" she yelled, heading towards her car.
"Uh, she's my ride," I said, trying to sound apologetic and not stupid and lame. "See you around, Sean."
He shrugged. "See ya Skye." He turned and went in.
I frowned, feeling like I’d just missed a big chance. But then why did he have to diss the band? I did kind of want to hear the DJ too... Ugh. I hated it when I think in circles.***
So that’s it for now, real short… I’m just too lazy… -_-
