Skye’s POV:
I slumped in my seat, putting my head on my desk. It was Friday and I was depressed. I came downstairs this morning to find a note from my dad:
Hey, Skye
Sorry for the short notice, but one of my partners came down with a bug and I have to go to the next town to take care of business. I'll be gone for at least 3 days.
Take care, you know where the emergency $ is, and call me if anything happens. Your mother is just beyond the border, so don't hesitate to call her if you can't reach me. And if you throw a party, remember to clean up! haha.
(A not-so-funny joke because he knew I'm responsible and I almost never bring any friends home. Because I was a loner with no life and no friends. Ha. Ha.)
Anyway, BE CAREFUL. I'll see you on Monday (?)
Love you, dad
He left a bag of chocolate chips next to it, like it'll fix anything. My favourite food ever, but still. (I ate them though. No need to waste chocolate.)
It's not the first time I've had the house alone but I’d always hated it. The house felt empty and was even quieter than usual. It made me feel even more lonely.
I didn't have plans for the weekend either. Maddie's going to a sleepover at a friend's (she’d invited me, but I’d declined. Duh. I didn't know the girl), and Luc was visiting his brother, who’d just gotten married. Nothing's happening! So I guess I'll just stay home and watch crappy movies that they always played in the middle of the night on TV, eating homemade popcorn... by myself. YAY. Ha, my ass.
"Hey, Skye." Someone poked me.
I looked up, mad that someone disturbed my moment of misery. I brightened when I realized it was Sean. He smiled at me, and I stared, lost in the way his brown hair flipped over his blue eyes.
"Taking a nap already? It's only 11:20."
I sighed. "I have a boring weekend ahead of me."
"Oh, that's too bad," he said, frowning. Then his eyes lit up.
For a moment I thought he'd ask me to do something, make plans... but why would he do that? I was just a girl he knew at school. Sigh.
"You could play video games!"
I blinked. Really? That was his brilliant idea?
The bell rang and I thankfully took the excuse to leave. That was disappointing. Stupid boy brains.

I'd just flopped onto the couch when the doorbell rang. I groaned. I got up slowly, while the doorbell rang like it was on crack. Yanking open the door, I snapped, "I heard you the first time, no need to attack my doorbell."
"Oops," Kevin said, grinning.
I rolled my eyes. Was it sad I wasn’t surprised it's them? "What now?"
"How's your arm?" Mike asked out of nowhere. "And knee?"
"Uh, fine?" I replied. "Still hurts though."
