Skye's POV:
Saturday morning, I woke up with a huge smile on my face. I didn’t dream about last night, right? I was really Sean's girlfriend? Rolling over, I squealed into my pillow. I was floating in a cloud of happy. Seriously, if I wasn’t so ecstatic, I'd probably puke at how giddy I was.
Drifting out of bed and into the shower, I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. I'd wanted this for so long… Sean couldn’t have been more perfect.
Creeping downstairs for breakfast, I found a note on the counter telling me that Dad's gone out to interview somebody for such and such. My bubble deflated a little bit, but at least he'd actually come out of his lair last night to ask me where I'd been.
“I told you, I was out on a date,” I’d reminded him, still lost in Sean’s kiss, not even annoyed that he’d forgot.
Dad had blinked, as if he’d just remembered that he was talking to his teenage daughter. “Well,” he’d said, voice suddenly a bit gruff, and looking all awkward and stuff. “Remember to be careful alright? Don’t let any boy pressure you or anything.”
“Right…”
He’d cleared his throat, clearly uncomfortable with the subject. “If you ever, uh, need to, you know, have the Talk about, uh, birth control and uh, con-----”
I’d come back down to earth with a thunk, cheeks flaming with embarrassment. “DAD!” Thank god Sean was gone, otherwise… “I’m good. I’m not… well, doing that anytime soon…”
He’d nodded, clearly relieved. “Well, if you ever think that you want to… you can ask me, you know, if your mother’s not here.”
At which point I’d mumbled a quick excuse about being tired and practically ran up the stairs. I was so not ready for that conversation. With my dad or my mother. Who had never been here long enough for me to want to ask her.
Just as I shoved the last bit of cereal into my mouth, my cellphone burst into ‘Break Your Heart’ by Taio Cruz. Rolling my eyes, I picked up.
“Yes, Kevin?”
“SKYE!” he sounded awfully delighted. “How was the date?”
“Great,” I replied dryly. “Would’ve been even better if you hadn’t called in the middle of it, drunk and in. a. freaking. Bar!”
He laughed, a bit nervously. “Aha, funny you should mention…” he quieted down, making an attempt at secrecy. “It was really all Shane’s idea. We all knew you were going out with that Sean dude, and I guess that someone was jealous-----”
There was a slap, muffled obscenities, followed by scuffling sounds, which I took to be someone wrestling for the phone away from Kevin. I took the chance to dunk my empty bowl of cereal in the sink. I wondered what the boys wanted. Mike had mentioned something last night about a show? But I couldn’t really make out more than that because of the wild background noise and drunkenness.
“Skye?” Shane’s voice. “Sorry, Kevin’s an idiot… anyway. Oh yeah, we’re doing this open mic thing today at this café. Random people going up and performing, that kind of stuff. Great promo chance. So, we want you to come.”
