Skye’s POV:
"Where were you?" Maddie shouted over the noise of the crowd. "They're about to start!"
"Couldn’t find any good food!" I yelled back. I tightened my ponytail. Who knew how hard it was to push through crowds of squealing girls in shirts 3 sizes too small?
But after seeing how hot that drummer dude was, I kind of understood. Still, no need to wear 4-inch high heels or 2 gallons of perfume.
The lights dimmed, and the stage lit up. 3 guys in neon-colored shirts (yellow, orange, and of course, green) appeared on stage, causing the crowd to scream in delight. (Seriously, I saw a girl faint. Like really, they're just guys. Hot guys. But still.) They did some flipping around the stage, and the guy in the orange performed a backwards somersault in the air, landing in front of the mike.
"Are y'all ready?" he shouted. The crowd went wild. "Then let's get this show on the road! Scream your heads off!"
I frowned, but then Maddie told me that was their song title. I had to admit that they weren’t bad. It wasn’t all just scream, scream, screech some more. The lead singer, Mike, I learned, could actually sing. Of course, they were all good-looking, not that that meant anything. The lead singer had dark hair with red streaks, and chains hanging off his baggy jeans. The guy in the yellow on the guitar was blond with black mixed in his spiky hair. (Surprisingly, he didn’t look like a bee.) He wore a few chains around his neck, and rings on his hands. Maddie told me he was Kevin. Looked like a player/flirt to me. Shane looked just as good sitting behind the drums, banging out the beat. His hair covered his face, and he'd shake his head, looking at the crowd with his dark eyes.
With the crowd screaming along and jumping, I couldn’t help getting into the spirit. And the band could actually play. They actually had good music.
The Mike dude sat down after a few songs, sitting on the edge of the stage, slapping out-stretched hands. "Here's a song for all you special girls out there," he said. "Know that there's always someone there for you." He smiled this really sweet and genuine smile.
Kevin switched to an acoustic, and even Shane switched to a... violin? But they were good. It was good harmony.
When tears are spent, on your last pretense
And your tired eyes refuse to close and sleep in your defense
When it's in your spine, like you've walked for miles
And the only thing you want is just to stay still for awhile
My eyes went wide as I recognized the song. 'Beside You' by Marianas Trench! I loved this song! Because it made me feel like someone actually cared. About me.
And if your heart wears thin, I will hold you up
And I will hide you when it gets too much
I'll be right beside you
I'll be right beside you
I sang along, my eyes closed. When they finished, the crowd screamed for an encore. They did some more songs, then waved and said goodnight. People started leaving slowly.
Maddie sighed, smiling. "That was perfect. Well almost. If only they'd ask someone to go up. I'd gladly be there just to be next to them for a few seconds..." She closed her eyes.
I shook my head. Then I remembered the passes in my back pocket. I looked at Maddie's wistful face. Oh well. It's not every day I get to go backstage anyway. "Come on," I said, dragging her with me. I pushed against the crowd.
