Skye’s POV:

      “Who the hell was that?”

I jumped, nearly upsetting my drink all over myself. But thankfully, I had my ninja skills and saved my drink and my dress. I turned around to see who was the creeper voice in my ear to find----guess who? ---- Shane and the guys standing behind me.

“You couldn’t have just tapped on the shoulder of maybe walked into my vision?” I said crossly.

“Hello to you too,” chirped Kevin, pulling a chair and sitting down next to me. “So, who was that guy? GASP! Did Sean get a makeover without telling us?”

“When did you guys become my personal bodyguards?” I demanded. “It’s none of your business who I hang out with.”

“When did you start hanging out with uptight Bill Gates wannabes?” Shane countered, taking Roger’s vacant seat.

“He is not a----” I began, not sure why I was defending Roger so much. But he wasn’t a bad guy. Just under his father’s influence. (Haha, I sounded like some rebel working against Darth-freaking-Vader or something.)

I was cut off my Mike, who pointed at me and exclaimed, “You’re wearing a dress!” The guys all abruptly looked at me, taking in the sight of Skye! In a dress!

I rolled my eyes. Of course Mike would notice. “Yeah, yeah. It wasn’t my idea, okay? I had to dress formally for a dinner with my dad and his co-worker guy who is really a stuck-up asshole… What? Why are you looking at me like that?”

“You’re wearing a dress!” Kevin continued gaping. “And you look hot! I thought it wasn’t possible for you to look hotter! Holy crap!”

I glanced at the others. “Did he, like, eat something before this?”

“Jellybeans,” Shane informed me.

“Anyway,” I continued, deciding to ignore Kevin’s open-mouthed gaze. “That’s why I’m in a dress. And that guy, for your information, is that co-worker person’s son. Not Sean-post-plastic-surgery---Oh, hi, Roger.”

The boys all turned to look at Roger, who stood there blinking, unsure whether to come closer or run the other way. Sighing, I introduced the guys to each other, since, being dudes, they were just sitting there making awkward eye contact.

“Here,” Mike offered his chair to Roger, giving him a smile. “I’ll grab another.”

“So, you’re all friends of Skye?” Roger asked, trying to make conversation.

“Yup!” Kevin piped up, stealing my drink only to find it empty. “And we’re in a band. And Skye’s going to perform with us!”

Roger stared at me. “Really? You’re already in a band?”

“Actually----”

“Is that so surprising?” Shane challenged coolly, glancing at Roger underneath his bangs.

“Oh, I see,” Roger said, nodding as if he finally found the last piece of the puzzle. “It’s your boyfriend’s band.”

For a moment, we all stared at him. Even Kevin looked up from his telepathic flirting with some girls at another table.
