This doesn't mean we're friends

“Where are we going?” I asked for the millionth time.

“Somewhere.” Ant replied bemusedly.

“I asked the same question a million times.” I whined. He laughed at that.

“Lia it’s the fifth time you asked me that question.” Ant pointed out.

“But it feels like a million…”

“Calm down, we’re almost there.” Ant pointed out and I instantly perked up.

“Really?” I asked hopefully and I perked up instantly. He chuckled and parked the car at the annual fun fair. I grinned, I knew what Ant was trying to do, he was taking me to the two places I wanted to go to all my life. I grinned and kissed his cheek and threw my arms around him.

“Thanks so much Ant.” I said softly as I pressed my self against him.

“C’mon lia, we’ll miss the fair.” Ant pointed out. He dragged me out of the car and led me to the cotton candy store. Before I knew it I was having the time of my life running around to get on as many rides but the huge roller coasters. Which really annoyed Ant, he loved those  rides. I couldn’t help being afraid of them.

I liked the fact that ant never pressured me on to any of them.

But a flash back hit me of Nick and I. He grabbed my arm and dragged me up to try and persuade me on a ride on his motor cycle. At first I was so scared but once he sped up, the adrenaline rush overcame my senses and instead of asking him to slow down I screamed at him to speed up. The risk and danger got me high, and since then, I adored speed.

At midnight, Ant and I got on the Ferris wheel –our last ride before we started playing at the over-priced game stores –and once we reached the top, the wheel suddenly stopped. Fire works went off around us and we were right at the top. I was star struck by the sight. Ant kissed me right at the top and we pulled away after a few minutes. For me, it was a kiss that could have been better although the timing was perfect, for ant, it looked like I had rocked his world. After the fireworks display, I dragged ant of to play a bunch of overpriced games.

I could never win at any of those rip off games but Ant always won. The stuff I could pick was from the bottom shelf to the top. He won a bunch of cool stuff for us. It was amazing, I never realised how much I missed out in life. We had to go home right after that.

Ant took a short cut which passed the hospital my heart clenched, i badly wanted to visit Nick but visiting hours were over. Realising this i realised why i was so freaked out that I saw Ant’s blue eyes after we kissed.

In reality i was kissing Ant, but virtually i was kissing someone else...And he had and annoying smirk and dark brown eyes.

I realised exactly what was going on, I had a crush on Nick.

I took a deep breath and calmed myself down, seeing Nick so vulnerable had obviously gotten to me. I know now that I was being disillusional.

I kissed Ant good bye and went into my room to go to sleep.

After last night’s realisation, i calmed down and stopped worrying about Nick too much, my grades got better and i began to relax more. Worrying so much about Nick was bad for my relationship with Ant and wasn’t helping me try to escape from the contract. However the longer and longer Nick was in hospital the worse and worse Mackenzie got.

Most people wrote it off as stress or nothing but i think that deep down she really cares about Nick. It bothered me a little but i knew that they were perfect for each other. The player and the witch. Fitting. But even with that thought i still felt guilty for thinking so lowly of her.

I walked off to my next class, which unfortunately had Mackenzie in it. History sucks. Mackenzie came in 3 seconds before the teacher came in. Just in time too because Mr Yam (pronounced as Yum) was really strict.

He walked into the class room with that awkward pigeon walk and glared at the class. “Alright class! Today we’re doing a project on the Civil War, the person sitting next to you will be your partner. Get to work.” I looked to the seat next to me and was met with Mackenzie’s satanic glare.

“Great, I’m stuck with the geek.” She sneered. I didn’t respond. “What’s the matter Nathalia? Cat’s got your tongue?”

“Why do you hate me so much? I never did anything to you.” I whispered. She gave me a withering look.

“Are you seriously asking me that question?” She snapped.

“Whatever Mackenzie. Who’s house will we go to for our project?” I asked. She froze and panic flashed through her eyes.

“No one’s. You’ll do the project and I’ll do what ever I want to do.” She snapped harshly. I examined her and noticed there was too much foundation and concealer on her wrist. I wanted to ask what had happened but it wasn’t my place.

“I can’t do it all by myself and you know that.” I said quietly as let my hair cover my face. She sighed in annoyance and shot me a hateful look.

“Fine. Be that way, but just to be clear, this doesn’t mean we’re friends.” She hissed. Together we began planning the project without fighting much and actually contributing to it. It was…fun. But once the class was over Mackenzie was back to her bratty self again.
