Keiras POV

"You should go see what Carrie wants," he said nervously, probably trying to get off the subject.

I solemnly agreed and half-walked, half-stumbled down the stairs.

"You okay, kiddo?" Carrie met ne at the bottom.

"Yeah. I got eyeliner in my eye and it's burning like hell, " I lied.

"Oh. Grab the radio from out back? Is Hunter staying for dinner?"

"Sure and I'm not sure. I'll ask in a minute," and with that, I walked out of the screen door in the back of the kitchen and grabbed the radio from the back of the porch that wrapped entirely around the house. I walked back in the door, placed the old radio on the table and ran back upstairs. The door was still open from when I left so I returned to my seat next to Hunter, whom was still not emotionally stable. "Geez, Hunt, I'm the one who lost my life and you're the one who's crying."

"But I remember it. I guess knowing is half the battle," he said without connecting our eyes.

After a long and awkward silence filled the room like a toxic gas, I finally asked the question that had been lingering in my head,

"Why don't you stay for dinner?"
