"This is the consequence of falling in love," he said, smiling bitterly.

"What is?" she asked, looking at him.

"The deeper your love is, the harder you fall. It would feel like you are falling into an abyss where there is nothing but darkness; giving you a loud thump when you hit the ground. And it would hurt so bad. It would give you a lot of wounds that would probably leave a scar."

"Is love not a wonderful thing?"

"I don't know," he answered. "I never considered it a bad thing, though."

She tilted her head to the other side and knitted her eyebrows.  "Then why are you talking like love gave you nothing but pain? Isn't it that love made you stronger after that fall? Yes, it did leave a scar that would probably last for a long time, but you're still here... standing in front of me. It didn't stop you from living."

He fell silent.

She smiled. "Love isn't all about bright colors and sweet metaphors. It's somewhat about pain. It makes you want to stop because it's hurting you too much. But if you're that hesitant about it, then it isn't love."
