Calum

I rush down my stairs to leave out the door; but before I could Martha calls me into kitchen. I let out a sigh as I enter the space: she has just finished making a sandwich. "Would you like one?" She asks in her soft tone. "No thanks, I'm on my way out."

"Please take a seat, I want to talk to you for a moment."

"Do we have to right now?"

"Yes right now." She looks at me with a stern look. I sigh knowing that I can't leave until I have talked to her. I take a seat at the island; she lets out a pleased smile.

"How are you?"

"Alright."

"I've noticed your friends haven't been around lately. Why is that?"

"We haven't talked in awhile." I answer.

"Why's that?"

"I don't know." I answer sounding annoyed.

"What about that girl Taylor?" When the name leaves her lips I couldn't help but picture Ashton all up behind her; which was making my blood boil.

"Nothing to say about her."

"Calum." My head snaps up to look at her.

"I noticed something different about you and I couldn't figure it for the life of me. Then she showed up and it made sense. You just seemed so happy. I hate seeing you so mad at the world, you deserve to be happy. I know you hold onto a lot of things, but that girl did something to you, and it was nice to see that happy Calum again."

"I'll never be happy." After those words leave mouth I rush out of my house. The last thing I wanted to do is sit there with Martha and talk about things. She's the only person that I love, but I couldn't talk to her about anything, because that means to have feelings, and that's the last thing I want to have right now.

I pull up to the house I've been thinking about all afternoon. I walk up the steps slowly thinking about what I was going to say. I ring the door bell and wait for someone to answer. I hear shuffling behind the door and not long after the door opens.

Ashton steps outside closing the door behind him. "Calum." He says in a stern voice.

I don't know why I'm here but everything within me is full of rage, and I don't know what to do about it.

"You need to stay away from her."

Ashton's eyes widen for a moment. "Did you really just say that to me?"

"Yes Ashton I did." I clench my jaw and take a deep breath.

"You have some nerve."

"I have some nerve? You have some nerve! You're suppose to be my best friend!" I yell.

"I am your friend. You're the one not returning my texts or calls."

"I can't be friends with you if you have something with her." I say in disgust.

"What I have with Taylor is a friendship. I'm there for her when she needs me. Or we just hang out and chill-"

"Oh spare me." I cut him off.

"Calum I know about the lake house."

"She told you?" I know the answer to the question, but I couldn't help but ask.

"Yes."

"Fuck."

"Dude why are you such a dick?"
