They say that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, well I could disagree with that saying right at this moment. As I'm standing here in 30 below weather, as the snow and wind whip my face; I realize how much I hate winter, and since there's literally one week until Christmas, I'm convincing myself to hate that as well. Why am I standing in the freezing cold, you may ask, well it all started with coffee and Ashton.Three weeks ago
"Oh come on you loved it." I tease Ashton on our way out of the movie theater.
"There's absolutely no way you could ever pay me to see that again." I roll my eyes at his response, "you're over dramatic".
"What! You were literally crying when they finally got together!" He yells.
"Shut up! Not everyone needs to know." I say giving him a glare.
"Whatever, wanna go get a coffee?" He asks as he unlocks his car.
"Was that even a question."
"Stupid one hey," he says while smiling.
"Duh," I say playfully. Ashton chuckles while shaking his head for a response."So, do you have any special holiday plans?" Ashton asks while still concentrating on driving.
"Uh not really, my sister is coming home on the twenty second, my moms side of family is coming Christmas Eve, then my sister and I are going with our dad's Boxing Day. So kind of just visiting with family," I finally finish.
"Well that's good, you should be excited."
"Yeah, I love the holiday season. What about you?" I ask.
"My family gets together at our cabins by the lake Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day."
"Cabins? By the lake? What do you do." I ask excitedly, which causes Ashton to laugh.
"My great great grandparents bought a huge piece of land near the lake way back in the day. My great great grandfather built these amazing cabins, it took him years and years, but he turned that place into our families amazing little get away."
"How many cabins are there?" I ask.
"About fifteen now."
"Oh my god that's a lot."
"Yeah, we have a big family. On Christmas eve we take a day trip to a skiing resort about forty-five minutes away."
"Then," he continues. "On Christmas day we do the whole open present thing, but after we go ice fishing, and have a big fish fry," he says as he pulls into a parking spot at our local coffee shop. "That honestly sounds amazing.""Thank you," I smile at Ashton while he hands me the iced coffee I ordered, even though he insisted it was ridiculous that I ordered it because it was minus 10 outside. He rolled his eyes at me and took the seat right in front of me.
"I swear to god if you complain that you're cold," Ashton mutters before he takes a sip of his coffee. "Whatever'.
"Are you going to the big New Years party?" Ashton asks.
"I don't know."Anxiety starts to rise into me because I know exactly who I'm going to see if I show up at that party; Calum
"Have you seen or talked to him since?" Aston asks.
I shake my head no in response.
"Yeah, I haven't really seen him around lately." Ashton finishes in a sigh.
"I haven't really been able to talk about him." I admit. "It's hard to love someone that doesn't fight for you."
"I guess he could feel the same," Ashton says softly.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Just think about it. If you don't fight for him either, what is he going to think?"
"He doesn't love me, it's okay. He pushed me away and if he stays away then, Calum doesn't love me, or even care for me enough to fight for. " I answer honestly.
"It's not healthy, but I thought you were on my side?" I'm kind of getting annoyed that he's taking his side.Ashton closes his eyes and takes a deep breath.
"I'm not suppose to say anything.." Ashton looks like he's contemplating something in his head. "Fuck it," he whispers.
"Calum and all us guys have known each other since birth, because our parents were all friends. We would always have gatherings together, family parties, and even go to each others cabins. That always happened, until one year, when we were about eight years old. Actually it was around christmas time, and after the christmas break we all returned to school. When I got to school that morning I went to go see all the boys. But when I got to class I saw Luke and Michael sitting in our usual spots, Calum was in the back corner. He just had a blank look on his face. From then he was never the same. Calum didn't speak until he was ten. Even then he never laughed or did anything fun. Never came back to any birthday parties, nothing. Then in grade eight we all started hanging out all the time drinking and smoking weed, following that into freshman year, but stuff like molly and mushrooms. Then that's where we are today. We never talk about what happened to him because he made it clear to never ask him," he finishes.
