Your phone pinged, a text flashing on the screen.
From: Y/B/F/N
He just broke up with me. I need you to come over.
You frowned at the text, dismayed at the news. You quickly composed a text back before hopping out of bed.
To: Y/B/F/N
Fuck him. I'll be over in a few. Love you lotsPulling on a t-shirt and some jeans, you hurried out of the apartment while fixing your hair. You didn't look great nor did you bother putting in your hearing aids, but who cared? Your friend needed you; your appearance was the least of your concerns. Besides, the trip over to Y/B/F/N's house was short, and they knew sign language, so it was all good.
You pressed the elevator button, praying that it would just hurry up. Finally, the bell rang and the doors slid open. You quickly got in, happy that the elevator was empty. You drummed your fingers in the handlebar as the elevator went down, but that didn't last long. Much to your dismay, the elevator just had to stop at the floor below yours. Great.
Of course, it had to be a cute guy. You groaned internally as he gave you a kind smile. You smiled back, hoping that you didn't look horrible. The doors closed and the elevator moved once more. You tapped away on your phone, replying to your friend's texts. Suddenly, the elevator screeched to a halt, lights flickering abruptly before turning on again. You frowned, looking up from your phone.
Sure enough, the floor display on the elevator read "error". You were stuck in an elevator, looking like trash, with a cute guy while your distressed friend sat at home waiting for you.
Wonderful.
You felt a tap on your shoulder, causing you to turn and look at the cute guy. You immediately felt your face blushing as he spoke to you, but obviously you couldn't hear him. Great thinking Y/N, you thought. Way to ditch the hearing aids when you need them. You frowned as you tried to read his lips, but to no avail.
"I can't hear you," you told him, gesturing to your ears. He looked surprised for a second, before nodding.
He said something else before realizing his mistake and blushing. You laughed, causing his blush to deepen.
He paused, thinking, before pointing to you then gesturing to his chest. You looked at him, confused. Obviously he was trying to tell you something, but truth be told, he wasn't very good at it.
"Me?" you asked as he pointed to you. He nodded.
He gestured to his chest again, like he was putting on a sticker or something. Then he did a writing gesture. You frowned, before realizing what he was trying to say.
"Oh!" you exclaimed. "My name. My name's Y/N."
He grinned victoriously. You smiled; he was really cute.
"What's your name?" you asked.
He thought for a second before holding up his hand. It was curved like a C, but backwards. He quickly switched hands, making a C the right way.
"Ok, C," you read.
Next, he held up made an L shape, which miraculously was the right way.
"L," you told him. "I sure hope your name isn't just CL."
He laughed, shaking his head. He was way too cute. He held up his hand straight, so that the side of his hand was facing you.
"I?" you said, unsure.
He nodded, before frowning. You could sense that this next letter was going to be trouble. He held up one hand, before making an angled L shape on his other hand.
"V?" you asked, but he shook his head.
He tried again, this time making a peace sign instead of an L shape. It still didn't make any sense, thought the effort was there.
"Dude," you told him, "Now is not the time for shadow puppets."
He chuckled, quickly making a bird shadow puppet. You laughed along, and his eyes soon lit up with inspiration. He kept the bird shadow puppet, gesturing for you to guess.
"Bird?" you asked, earning a nod of his head. "Ok, pigeon? Dove? Seagull?"
He shook his head at each of them, laughing. He gestured that it was big, and you frowned.
"Big Bird? Like the yellow guy from Sesame Street?" you said, utterly confused. "That's your name?"
He shook his head again, holding his stomach as he laughed. You smiled as he laughed. He wasn't very good at miming things, but man was he cute while he did it. Soon, he regained his composure, standing back up.
He did the bird shadow puppet again, before pointing to his eye. You looked at him in confusion before it clicked.
"Hawkeye!" you exclaimed, earning an excited nod from him. "I'm so stupid, oh man, you're like always on the news!"
Your face flushed red, realizing that you just made a fool of yourself in front of a superhero. He was always on the news, but you didn't recognize him even when he was right in front of you. How awkward.
He just grinned, shrugging like it was no big deal. You still couldn't believe yourself.
Soon, he was miming something else to you. He pointed at you, then to himself.
"Me and you," you read, as he nodded in confirmation.
He held up 7 fingers, before doing a very awkward dance.
"7 o'clock...having to go pee?"
He blushed again, shaking his head furiously. You laughed as he continued.
This time, he did the same dance but also did a drinking gesture.
"Oh," you said, "A party?"
He nodded, before flashing a thumbs up followed by a thumbs down. Your face lit up in surprise.
"Are you asking me out? To a party?" you said, surprised.
He nodded, waiting for a response. You grinned, giving him two thumbs up. He laughed before pulling out his phone and pointing to it. You nodded, taking his phone before handing him yours.
As you exchanged numbers, the elevator began to move again. You cheered, happy to be moving.
You exchanged phones back and the elevator stopped at the ground floor. You waved to each other as you left, going your separate ways.
As you got in your car, your phone beeped.
From: Big Bird
7 o'clock at the Avengers Tower. I'll pick you up and brush up on my sign language.
You grinned, writing a text back.
To: Big Bird
Or I could just wear my hearing aids and spare you from miming everything...though it was very cute.
