Will listened to the hum of traffic as he began to sketch. He was on the porch, as it was about to rain. The dark clouds faded into a light grey-blue color. Patches of sunlight shown through the clouds, the perfect combination of light and dark. There wasn't a living soul to be seen, and the universe seemed to be stuck, as if it couldn't make up its mind, and stayed frozen in time.

Will heard the paper crinkle slightly under his touch and smoothed it out, before examining his work. He exhaled slowly. It was a boy. One he was sure he'd never met, yet had all the same. One with dark ebony hair, pale skin and dark, tired eyes. Sad--even.

That pained Will. He didn't want anyone to feel pain. He wanted to help. Especially since this wasn't just anyone. His mother had told him that you knew your Soulmate better than you knew yourself. So did his soulmate know he was the one causing his pain?

He heard the sound of a moving vehicle, the hum of the engine getting closer. Will looked up in time to see a big white van pull in the driveway a house across from him. There was a logo on it, written in bold, but the letters were moving and dancing across his vision. He supposed that his dyslexia would just never go away, despite his wishes.

A flock of birds flew across the sky. A light drizzle of rain started to fall. A boy got out of the van. A woman got out as well, but Will's attention was on the boy. Why? Because that boy was the exact match to the picture he'd drawn since he was seven. Black hair, pale skin, dark eyes and all.

Will walked over shyly. If this was his soulmate, he had to make a good impression. But he screwed everything up... He walked forwards and the boy's dark eyes met Will's blue ones. They stared at each other for a second, and Will could've sworn he saw a glimmer of recognition in the boy's eyes, before he glanced away.

"Hi. My names Will Solace. I'm your neighbor, I guess," Will said, shaking the woman's hand. He laughed a little "Looks like someone finally bought the old place..."

The woman beamed at him. "Hello! My name's Maria." He noticed her voice held a strong Italian accent. "And this is my son, Nico." Nico glanced at Will, and turned away finally, ignoring then completely. Will felt sort of awkward. So much for a good first impression...

He saw a small, worried frown grow on Maria's lips. "Did I do something wrong?" He asked, confused, and slightly sad. Great. He messed up. Well crap...

Maria shook her head quickly. "It's not you, dear...it's just...he's never been the same since his older sister died..."

Will blinked in surprise. "Oh, I'm sorry for your loss, when did that happen?"

Maria's brow creased. "She died before he was born..."

Will froze.
