I sneakily move through the trees without being detected by Dax, Bellamy, or Clarke. When I saw a glimpse of Dax ten minutes ago, my first idea was to figure out why he was out here, but when I saw the rifle in his hand, I knew I better just follow him instead. He lead me straight to Bellamy, who definitely seems to be experiencing hallucinations.
Up ahead, Bellamy is laying on the ground with Dax standing above him with the rifle in hand. Right as I was going to interfere, Clarke showed up out of nowhere with her own rifle in hand. This was not the situation I was expecting.
I creep closer to the three of them with the barrel of my gun pointed at Dax's head. Honestly, I do not want to shoot Dax, but the look in his eyes is sending goosebumps down my spine. That's the look of a killer. I'm only a few feet away from Clarke now. None of them have spotted me yet.
Dax steadily keeps his gun pointed at Clarke with his back now facing Bellamy. "Should've stayed down there, Clarke. I tried not to kill you, but here you are, and Shumway said no witnesses."
Shumway? That's one of the guards on the Ark. He's visited my cell once or twice. I actually think he's one of the guards that I punched a couple of years ago. Did Shumway tell him to kill Bellamy?
"What is he talking about?" Clarke demands. She looks better than she did before when I left her. I told her not to leave the depot.
"Shumway set it up." Bellamy speaks from the ground. "He gave me the gun to shoot the Chancellor."
"Walk away now and I won't kill you." Dax warns her.
"Put it down." Clarke orders him.
My left foot steps backward and I feel the twig roll beneath my boot. I silently curse myself when it breaks under the pressure. Dax's gun darts towards the tree I'm hiding behind and back to Clarke. I step away from the tree with my gun pointed at him still. "Put the gun down, Dax."
"Nice of you to join us, Wren. I was wondering where you went off to." Dax keeps his eye on the both of us. "I'll give you the same offer. Walk away and I won't kill you."
"Not a chance." My voice stays low to avoid showing how worried I actually am about this situation. I never would have seen myself holding a gun and pointing it at someone else from camp. I really never expected myself to ever end up holding a gun.
"Your choice." Dax shrugs.
Clarke pulls the trigger on her rifle, only to realize her bullets are duds. Her eyes widen as she realizes what happened. Hoping for the best, I pull my finger back on my trigger. I swear under my breath at the clicking noise. Clarke and I quickly jump away from each other and hide behind seperate trees before Dax's gun goes off.
I pull myself against the bark of the tree, praying that a bullet doesn't hit me. From behind the tree, I hear Bellamy shout out and then the sound of two bodies hitting the ground. Clarke is struggling to reload her gun.
Without thinking, I toss my own gun to the ground and push myself around the tree. I just heard Dax reload his gun before Bellamy tackled him. The two boys roll around on the ground, fighting.
"Get the hell off him!" Clarke attempts to hit Dax with her gun and ends up getting punched in the stomach.
Dax sees me running for his gun and trips me with his leg before punching Bellamy repeatedly. I face plant to the ground with a soft cry. I quickly scramble to my hands and knees. Dax has his gun back in his hands, trying to hold it against Bellamy's chest and neck.
I stretch out for my own gun and use all of my strength to reload it. After my second try, I hear the click. I roll over onto my butt and hold the rifle in my hands once again. Shutting one eye, I peer through the scope and press down on the trigger.
