The trees and bushes turn into one giant blur as I race through the woods. I knew I didn't have much time. Raven tried to sneak out of camp on her own with the bomb. After Miller told me he saw her leave, he handed the extra gun over to me and told me to go be the good leader that I was.
Miller and I have grown closer this past week. He apologized for everything he did to keep me from the Grounder, aka Lincoln. He was the only one who apologized. Of course, I didn't apologize for punching him because he understood why I did it.
There was no one to hold me back from going after Raven. I left camp without being seen by my brother. I didn't want anyone to worry about me. Bellamy was in the dropship because of the virus, so he wouldn't even know I left by the time I get back.
I couldn't understand why he never wanted me to use a gun. Why didn't he trust me? The only time he saw me with a gun was when I shot Dax. The memory plagues my mind in my dreams. I didn't want to kill him, but I know that if I hadn't, none of us would be alive right now.
My legs carry me through the woods, too far behind Raven to yell out her name. If I shout, I'm afraid Grounders might here and our plan will be ruined. Raven should have at least told someone what she planned on doing. She should have never gone by herself.
The sun has already risen in the sky. We were running short on time. When I left camp, it was still dark out. The Grounders attack at first light. I push myself to run faster, mentally hoping that I catch up with Raven in time.
I abruptly skid to a stop when I see a break through the trees and catch sight of Raven on the bridge down below. My head snaps up at the sound of war drums in the distance. Oh no. The Grounders are coming.
I peer through the scope of my gun, watching as Raven attempts to walk away from the bomb, only to collapse on the bridge. The closer I look, the more I realize she's been affected by the virus. I swear under my breath. Before I can run down the hill to save Raven, I hear Finn's voice and see him race across the bridge to her. When the hell did he get here?
I jog down the hill a little bit to get a better shot at the bomb on the bridge. I'm just out of range of hitting the white 'x' marked on it.
"Shoot, Jasper! Shoot! Shoot!" Finn yells once they are off of the bridge.
Jasper? He's here?
I scan the area of the woods, searching for my brother. My eyes fall upon the back of Jasper's head not too far away. He presses down on his trigger, missing the first shot. "Come on, Jasper." I whisper to myself. I won't fire unless I have to.
Bursts of flames through the trees on the other side of the bridge capture my attention. I lift my rifle up, peering through the scope. There's several Grounders on the other side, some holding torches in their hands. We're running out of time.
The Grounders halt their movements at the sound of gunshots. They freeze on the other side, quietly waiting to see what happens next. They don't know about this bomb. Another gunshot fires through the air, missing the target again.
Jasper presses down on the trigger, earning a clicking noise in response. "Oh, damn it. Damn it."
He ran out of bullets. I sprint down the hill toward the bridge. Now, it's all up to me to do this. I know I can make the shot. I just have to get a little closer. I dart past Jasper and Monty, who seems to have just appeared with another rifle.
"Wren?" Jasper gasps in surprise.
I stop running and position the gun on my shoulder, getting ready to take the shot. Right before I can hold down the trigger, my left foot slips out from underneath me and I slip down the hill that leads right to the side of the bridge.
