Me and my girlfriend Cheryl were asking down the street towards her ex-husbands house where she had to pick up her son. I was nervous as I had never met the boy and apparently he was different to other boys. As we walked up the drive way, I could hear screams causing me to quicken my pace and a concerned look cross my girlfriends face. I knocked on the door and the screaming stopped, a man with a long beard and greasy face opened the door, only when he saw who it was he slammed it shut, then opened it again and pushed a child out who was shivering and whimpering.
"Zayn honey, its mum, can I pick you up?" Cheryl said gently
"Mum, I don't want to live there anymore" The boy cried as he stood there shaking
"I know baby, you won't because Liam has signed the papers, you can live with us now" Cheryl said not moving close, it was as if she didn't want to scare the child
"Who's Liam mum" Zayn asked as he started to calm down
"Thats Liam there, he also has sons, but they are younger than you" Cheryl said as she pointed to me
"Hi Zayn, how old are you?" I asked unsure as Cheryl never really told me
"I turn 14 three weeks ago" Zayn said as he came up and shook my hand strongly
"Wow, you're only older than one of my boys, Louis and Jake are 18 and Niall has just turned 10, and he is completely blind" I said as I looked at the boy who clearly hadn't been loved or fed properly in a while
"What do they call you, like dad or papa?" He asked me shyly
"Louis and Jake both call me papa, Niall doesn't talk much " I said as I gently took his smooth baby like hand in my callused big one
"Can I call you daddy, like my mummy?" He asked
"Of course you can, lets get you home and fed, all my boys will be at home, I think Louis and Jake have their boyfriends round though" I said as I led him to the car
"Babe, you never told me about Niall" Cheryl said as we started the drive back to our house
"I thought you wouldn't want to be with me anymore" I said quietly
"I would never leave you, I am looking forward to meeting the boy" Cheryl said as we stopped at the red light
"Zayn darling, have you got any needs we need to know about?" I asked as we drove into our street
"I still wear nappies coz dickhead never taught me" Zayn said
"Language kiddo, Niall is slightly behind with it as well don't worry, we won't judge" I said as I parked the car
"Welcome home Zee" Cheryl said as we got out of the car where all my children were waiting boyfriends as well
"Ni, hey hun" I said as I took my youngest into my arms a large smile coming onto his face as he felt my facial features
